Became a fan of RHP Parker Smith (@RiceBaseball) last spring. Had a solid freshman season, but broke out last year to the tune of a 3.58 ERA and 82 strikeouts across 88 IP. Was a First Team All-Conference USA selection and earned an invitation to Team USA's Collegiate National Team. Durable frame at 6'4" and 230-pounds. Present physicality in the lower half. Loose, whippy arm action. Pitches from a low/mid-three quarter slot. Low release height. FB sits in the 92-94 range, tops out at 95/96. Shows running life at times, but I think improving the pitch shape will be key when it comes to maximizing his arsenal. At its best, and gets the most swing and miss, when located on the arm side. Also features an effective mid-80s CH that he's comfortable throwing to both right and lefthanded hitters. Flashes plus with late tumbling life and fade. Advanced feel for the offering. Would put a 55 on it. Smith's low-80s SL is his best secondary. Generated a 36% miss rate in 2023 and opposing hitters hit just .179 against it. Varies the shape well. Will take on more of a sweeper look at times against RHH. Bigger depth with tight, two-plane break especially against LHH. 60-grade offering. Attacks the strike zone, advanced control and command of his entire arsenal. Starter professionally with a reasonably high floor. Smith has top-3 round upside this July.
