Max VR List staff has voted in favor of Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8 lists being discontinued when Nintendo Network services shut down.

Mario Kart 8's official servers have been down for one month, without further notice from Nintendo about when they will be functional again. In light of this event, Max VR List staff has decided to allow the use of Pretendo Network to play Mario Kart 8 online.
