On 2/3, I’ll be in conversation with the extraordinary Ellen Bass about building community. If you run (or hope to start) an online learning or creative community, I hope you’ll join us. We’ll also leave time for questions.

@MayaCPopa I’m enjoying the program so much! Mostly auditing the videos, but excited to get editing poems.

On December 21, from 2-4 PM EST, I’ll be teaching a 2‑hour craft class diving into the underrated, luminous work of poet Laura Gilpin. We will discuss the work of caregiving & poetry, approaching both with deep curiosity & attention to mystery.

@lovesettlement Totally separate skills. And if I had to choose one, it would be the ones that promote the conditions for writing every time. But I'd also like to believe that I can choose *not* to choose just one. With effort.
English

@MayaCPopa Creation and promotion are definitely separate skill sets. Some people are good at both. Not very many. But some. These are the people most likely to make it big.
English

Poets aren’t bad at self-promotion because we’re inherently humble, but because the habits that sustain poetry have very little to do with the habits required to promote it. Promotion can feel like an assault on the inner world by the outer one.
