בפעם השניה בתוך פחות מחודש שוטרים במחוז ירושלים מסמנים עיתונאים ופוגעים בהם. נהג מכתזית כיוון בכינון ישיר זרם עצום לפניו וחזהו של צלם העיתונות הוותיק מנחם כהנא (68) ופצע אותו בראשו ובחזהו. מנחם פונה לבית החולים שערי צדק. אנו עומדים עמו בקשר. במקרה הקודם, סימנה קבוצת בלשים ושוטרים עיתונאים במזרח העיר ותקפה אותם תוך שהיא שוברת את כף ידה של עיתונאית CNN בעיר. בעקבות פניית הארגון למשטרה, הורה מפקד המחוז על ביצוע תחקיר מידי של האירוע. ביקשנו לקבל לידינו את סיכום ממצאיו לכשיסתיים. המשטרה בקשה למסור באמצעותנו החלמה מהירה למנחם.

תראו את שני הצעירים החרדים האלו. אותם לא מעניינת המסורת השכונתית. כל מה שמעניין אותם זה שלא יהיו נשים במרחב הציבורי. השחיתו את התמונות של נשים בשכונה, אף אחד לא מפריע להם. ההפך, מי שניסה לצלם אותם, חטף מכה בטלפון הנייד. זה החג ה״שמח״ בירושלים. תיעוד מטריד במיוחד. פעם, בעבר הלא רחוק, שכונת הגבעה הצרפתית בירושלים הייתה חילונית ופלורליסטית לגמרי. רובה חילונית, מקצת מסורתית וקצת דתית, כמעט ולא היו קיצוניים בה. אני זוכר שלפני פסח נהגו בשכונה לתלות תמונות של נשים כסמל לפלורליזם.

My MA thesis, which I wrote last year, is about the 1973 oil crisis and the diplomatic Israeli response to it. The oil shock, which followed the Arab-Israeli war, saw a huge spike in oil prices and an embargo of Arab oil exports to the US and some other Western countries. During those months, between October 1973 and February 1974, there was a clear understanding among Israeli politicians and diplomats that the price shock and petrol shortages could be attributed to Israel and therefore harm its standing in the world. The reaction was what I called "Petro-Hasbara" - a body of knowledge that the Israeli Foreign Ministry developed and advocated, which showed, through economic and geological analysis, that the reason and motive for the crisis was not primarily the war, but the economic interests of the Arab oil producers. In many ways this explanation was successful, and in popular memory, the 1973 oil crisis is somewhat separated from the Arab-Israeli war. Even the most anti-Israel advocates on the left and right do not attribute the global economic crisis of the 1970s (and the dawn of neoliberalism) to Israeli aggression. I am telling you all of this in order to emphasize the fact that Israel is not making any effort to distance itself from the economic crisis we are now witnessing, which could be even bigger than the one in the 1970s. It publically rejcts any agreement with Iran that might open up the straits and bring back stability to the region. Of course, the situation is completely different, and Israel clearly started this war - unlike 1973 - but the point is the complete lack of effort by the Israeli state to preserve some standing in the global scene as a cooperative actor. The contrast between the Israeli leadership and foreign service in the seventies and the current political class in the country is striking, and it represents the deep transformation that Israel underwent in the past 50 years. We are now indeed a Sparta. Happy passover!

@itay0s רצחנו בשיטתיות שבעים אלף בני אדם בעזה, מתוכם עשרים אלף ילדים, לפחות. פוגרומים בגדה כמעט כל יום בגיבוי ממשלתי, שר ביטחון שמכריז על טיהור אתני של 600 אלף בני אדם בדרום לבנון. הפצצה של בית ספר והרג של מעל 150 ילדות באיראן. מה זה 4 חיילים? מכה בכנף, אם בכלל, מה נזכרת?

אני נדפק איך מוות של 4 חיילים עובר כמו ידיעה על השקה של מנה חמה בטעם קרמל מלוח ממשלה של שרמוטות מדינה של שרמוטות כבר לא יודע מי פה יותר שרמוטה באנו לשרמט ויצאנו משורמטים
