Do I have an spidey friends? What kind of spider is this? The body is about an inch long and when an insect lands in its web it runs over and wraps it up in spidey silk. Ok probably all spiders do that but I'm telling you all I know. Sorry the pic isn't better.

I'm thinking of ways to test how elements of forest complexity (taxonomic, structural) influence biodiversity within landscapes of high forest cover but also high degradation.

I feel like I should know this but... Have there been any large-scale experimental studies comparing tree diversity vs. tree composition vs. tree structure for wildlife responses? (birds, insects, etc.). I can think of some interesting grassland studies, but not forests.

Oof. I greatly respect and admire both the New Yorker and Jill Lepore, but I'm deeply disappointed in Lepore's feature story in this week's magazine on forest loss and tree planting. (1/n) newyorker.com/magazine/2023/…
