Early this morning, just as I stepped out of my street for my run, a young lady walked up to me and asked if we could pair up. I agreed, but from experience, I wasn’t expecting much, few ladies actually keep up. We started. First kilometre - pace for pace. Second - still locked in. Third… same energy. By the fourth, fifth, sixth kilometre - nothing changed. No heavy breathing. No slowing down. No struggle. I had to quietly glance at her from the corner of my eye; calm face, steady rhythm, zero signs of stress. Omo… I looked again just to be sure I wasn't wrong about her gender. No shades, but most ladies I’ve run with in the past start dropping pace after about 5km… then switch to brisk walking. Not this one. Eight kilometres later, we got to the gym. I went straight to my “safe zone” - light reps, nothing too serious. I expected her to ease in too. But when turned she was lifting heavy. Not struggling. Not shaking, just controlled power. One hour later and she was still going strong. Me? I quietly slipped out of the gym with one solid resolution: Next time I see her… I am ducking !. Because this one ehn...pass some men sef.
