Our country’s immigration policies should not be based on preferences for certain ethnicities over others, but rather on the evidence of decades of humanitarian efforts and international diplomacy.

The federal administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status is irresponsible and disregards the safety of Somali people, many of whom are on a path to citizenship.

TPS for Somali people was established more than 30 years ago under the first Bush administration. Our Somali neighbors here on TPS came for safety and have stayed to build brilliant lives in America—raising families, starting businesses, and enriching the culture of our city.
