This week, right after the celebration of Opportunity Crossing next door, Wells Fargo reopened the branch and gifted $2m to the South Minneapolis neighborhood. This act is a promise to Sarura fulfilled and a testament of their commitment to the neighborhood’s recovery and growth.

In the subsequent unrest days after the murder of George Floyd, Sarura Yaro was out on the streets with a dustpan and broom, cleaning the debris after the Wells Fargo branch on Lake and Nicollet burned down.

A huge shoutout to the team at PPL for their vision, work, and partnership that made it possible. Thank you for investing in Minneapolis.

That doesn’t just tell you that people want to live or do business here - it tells you there is a need for housing at Lake and Nicollet, and people want to contribute to the social and economic growth of this corner.

At yesterday’s Opportunity Crossing grand opening, I learned all but two units had been filled and that two anchor businesses had already purchased commercial space on the ground floor.

That’s why we’re proposing a pilot Drone as First Responder program. This pilot could help reduce response times when every minute matters, support an already depleted police department by making more efficient use of limited personnel, improve officer safety, and save lives.

A missing veteran was spotted just nine minutes after our police department deployed a drone to assist with the search. Rescuers said he would not have been found without it. kstp.com/kstp-news/top-…

Safe streets don’t happen by chance - they happen through investment. We’re rebuilding our department and creating a police force that reflects and serves our community. The work isn’t finished, but we’re committed to delivering on services our residents expect.

150 new officers since 2025. Applications up more than 200% since 2023. The most diverse police force in City history.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act embraces these reforms and it is exciting to see ideas pioneered here in Minneapolis being used to change housing policy across the country.

Minneapolis was one of the first major cities to get rid of single-family exclusionary zoning, making it easier to build more homes while also keeping rents down.

Yesterday’s Abdi Bile 5K was a reminder of the power of endurance and perseverance. We’re lucky to now have Abdi in Minneapolis, sharing his talent and using his passion to help kids believe in themselves.

From running alongside him as a kid (briefly) to witnessing the impact he continues to have on families and the community, he’s been a force for good.

World champion Abdi Bile is one of Somalia’s most decorated athletes and an inspiration to young people and runners worldwide, including myself.

We’ll never stop helping people struggling with addiction and providing every opportunity to get care and get better. But if you’re dealing drugs, openly using drugs, or exploiting vulnerable people in our neighborhoods, there will be consequences.

Today, we announced a collaborative approach to addressing open-air drug markets, working hand in hand with our Native communities, local, state, and county law enforcement partners, and social service teams.
