Day 1 of peaceful #GiveUsAContact campaign Dear Honourable Minister @BTOofficial, We see your work. Passport booklets flowing and online renewals working seamlessly. You deserve your flowers sir. But thousands of us are stuck chasing issues with NO working phone number or email to reach your office. Please give us a working telephone, dedicated responsive Twitter handle or contact person for enquiries. That’s all we ask. #GiveUsAContact @MinOfInteriorNG @Nigerialondon

An Open Letter to the Honourable Minister of Interior @MinOfInteriorNG, Federal Republic of Nigeria @BTOofficial Your Excellency, I write with deep appreciation for the introduction of the self service passport renewal system, a reform that has brought significant relief to Nigerians living abroad. This innovation represents a meaningful step toward modernising public services and responding to the practical needs of citizens in the diaspora. For many Nigerians outside the country, particularly those of us residing in the United Kingdom, renewing a passport has historically been a challenging and often stressful experience. The requirement to travel to London, frequently over long distances, combined with extended waiting times and the uncertainty of securing appointments, placed considerable strain on individuals and families alike. The time, cost, and inconvenience associated with this process have been substantial. The self service passport renewal initiative has begun to change this narrative. By enabling eligible applicants to initiate and, in some cases, complete their renewals remotely, the Ministry has reduced the need for repeated physical visits and long queues. This has not only saved time and resources but has also restored a measure of dignity and convenience to an essential civic process. For this, many Nigerians in the diaspora are sincerely grateful. While this progress is commendable, there remains an urgent issue that requires attention; communication and support for applicants. A growing number of applicants experience delays or uncertainties during the renewal process, with limited or no access to reliable channels through which they can seek clarification, track progress, or resolve issues. In light of this, I respectfully request that the Ministry consider establishing and maintaining clearly defined, responsive, and accessible contact channels for passport related enquiries. These could include: •A dedicated and functional helpline with published hours of operation •Reliable email support with defined response timelines •An online tracking system that provides real time updates on application status •Official communication channels for escalation of delayed applications The availability of such contact mechanisms would not only improve transparency but also enhance trust and confidence in the system. It would ensure that applicants are not left in prolonged uncertainty, particularly in urgent situations where valid travel documents are essential. Your Excellency, the strides made so far are both visible and appreciated. With further improvements in communication and support, the self service passport renewal system can become a model of efficiency and citizen centred service delivery. Thank you for your continued efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians both at home and abroad. Yours faithfully, A Concerned Nigerian in the Diaspora
