"What can Zohran realistically achieve?" I keep getting asked. Bookmark this 🧵. We'll revisit it a lot in 2026 & later. 1. Rent Freeze. Easiest to achieve. It never was some sweeping citywide perpetual rent freeze. It only affects a million 50+ yr old units. Mayor has power.

@arshitadhiman Can you tell briefly about the demographic covered in the studies you looked at, how you define the categories, what's the method you used to make sense of your data, and what are your conclusions?

@arshitadhiman Hey @arshitadhiman I am really curious to know a little more about your work. My own research requires me to consult older literature on the intersection of biological, social, and environmental factors, and unsurpringly, the conclusions always reinforce the existing hierarchies.

Some people clearly misunderstood my thesis on hormone profiles in leaders and employees as “eugenics.” IT’S NOT!! My research looks at how hormones like cortisol (stress response) and testosterone (confidence, motivation) interact with leadership behavior and workplace stress. The goal isn’t to label or “rank anyone”.. it’s just to understand how physiological factors influence well-being, decision-making and performance in organizational contexts. It’s neuroendocrinology + organizational behavior and NOT “biological ranking.”

@abhijit_MLab An easy way to feel some power, that's all. In some medical colleges, addressing seniors as Sir/Ma'am is connected to the ragging culture as well. This may be the case in other colleges/universities too. Start with freshers, and then normalize it for posterity.

What is this obsession for Sir/Madam? I understand that he may not want a stranger to call him by first name but in many colleges, the students call their seniors as Sir/Madam, Profs call their senior colleagues in the same way. I don’t understand why. Is it a colonial hangover?

Call me old fashioned but had connected with a young fresh 2025 pass out from my college when he sent message on LinkedIn. His first message started with - Hi Saket, we are from same college…. And he lost me there itself. Son, you are 2025 pass out and address 1994 pass out with first name. I still address 1993 and earlier pass out as ‘Sir’. This Americanised culture..

Sci-Hub and Library Genesis has been defined in the literature as 'Black Open Access' model. In the last few months I've been working on a paper, where I explain that Sci-Hub is actually 'Red Open Access' while Library Genesis can be understood as a subtype of 'Green Open Access'. The preprint is available here: preprints.org/manuscript/202… commentaries and criticisms are welcome. You can send them to me by email. The picture with Sci-Hub's statistics comes from that paper. The number of PDF downloads from Sci-Hub per month, 2016-2023. Surprisingly, the usage of the website only increased after 2020, and that is only counting statistics from original website, not even counting numerous Sci-Hub mirrors!

But what are the implications of these processes for other general terms such as "history"? What history has the privilege of being identity-less, placing the onus of definition on "working-class history", "gender history", "dalit history" and the likes?

Went down my first rabbit-hole today, and ngl, it was fun! In Anglo-Saxon law, "wer" meant the value of a man's life. But in Old English, it meant a male person, a werman (and wifman for a female person). "Man" referred to a person, without qualifying gender.
