I still like the idea of Clayface a lot and the second trailer was really good, but I am not expecting it to have the breakout box office success that other horror movies lately have. Not because it's also a superhero-adjacent movie, but because it's body horror.

It could just be me, but as someone who has liked a lot of recent horror movies, I think the horror/comedy genre is what has been working lately. Something about "body horror" specifically is off-putting and is for a different audience than people who liked Obsession and Sinners.

I do think in our age of AI, people are yearning for something real and true, which probably does mean practical effects are more in demand now then 10 years ago BUT it’s not a silver bullet. A good story, writing and screenplay are all still much more important

@Shipittrain This is the only explanation I could maybe see, but I dont think there are that many people who wouldn't otherwise go see Spider-Man who are now buying tickets for it mainly to see the Doomsday trailer in theaters. I have to think the extra eyes from Odyssey are worth more

@ManaByte But it would still play with Spider-Man if it was released a week ago? The only thing I can think of is if they see the trailer in theaters as a way to drive audiences to Spider-Man

Not trying to be a hater for no reason, I have been and still am extremely excited for this movie, but I gotta be honest that this trailer didnt do enough for me. I do think that matters cause great marketing is what will turn this movie from a $1.5B to a $2B movie.

Also revealing Steve already kind of makes the reveal at the end with Thor less impactful. I like Steve's costume / hair a lot more in this trailer than the leaks which is good, and him still being able to call Mjolnir is always sick.

The Odyssey, in more ways than that, feels like a culmination of all of Nolan's work, truly his magnum opus. It feels like all his movies have been about this "journey home", and The Odyssey finally explores the moment of return.

Can't stop thinking about how #TheOdyssey thematically works as a sequel to #Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer dealt with the creation of this era-ending invention (the bomb / Trojan Horse), and The Odyssey analyzes the aftermath and regret of its activation on the world.

I think people see "Disney live-action remakes" as a pseudo-franchise, and like all franchises, if you consistently put out poorly received titles, eventually audiences will wise up and stop paying (with some occasional exceptions like Lilo & Stitch)
