Singapore Airlines flight #SQ321, operating from London (Heathrow) to Singapore on 20 May 2024, encountered severe turbulence en-route. The aircraft diverted to Bangkok and landed at 1545hrs local time on 21 May 2024. We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER. Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. (1/2)

Rejected a job offer this morning. After an unsuccessful job search, it was a hard decision, but an exploitative & disrespectful hiring process, salary that won't cover my commute expenses for a precarious job (9 months Part-time) meant that I prioritise my wellbeing this time.

Duncan is underplaying his accomplishments here. Having three books, 21 published papers and four supervised PhDs within six years of your PhD is outstanding. Not too long ago he'd have been offered a Chair for this sort of stuff, not left to burn out on precarious contracts.

Professional news: my contract at Leiden ends this month so I'm leaving academia. I'm good at my job. I publish a lot (3 books, 21 articles/chapters), got great teaching evaluations and supervised 4 PhDs since finishing my own in 2016. It's not enough though.
