Anyone who wants to stay in touch, my DMs are open, drop in your bluesky handle, but in future I'll mainly be here... or similar.

Dear twitter (for you will always be that for me), we've had a great time together, shared a few laughs, and made a few friends (and lost a few). It was fun. However, we've both moved on. We've both found different things. New places to be. So, no platitudes, but goodbye.

The medieval crypt gallery beneath the Norwich School chapel in the cathedral close. The graffiti certainly isn't medieval!

@fotofacade @NWHistGraffiti Note how the bottom section of the window design has been added in freehand, whilst the upper section is a geometric construct. We see that elsewhere. Someone came along and 'finished' it later.

Here's a host of 'All Saints' for All Saints' Day. 1. The remarkably complete C10th Anglo-Saxon tower at All Saints’ church, Earls Barton, Northamptonshire. #thread

Currently reading this. Not hating it. Far from it. Given the number of medieval church related books and papers I read, that in itself is an achievement. I could quibble with a few details, but would probably prefer to buy the author a pint.

From Woodbridge to Iken (Icanho) where Botolph, the athlete of Christ, did battle with demons in the 7th century. He has a makeshift shrine where people leave prayers on top of an old electric organ

We've been bewitched by new finds at Gainsborough Old Hall 🧙‍♀️ Around 20 ‘witches' marks’, traditionally made to protect buildings and those inside against demons, witches or the evil eye, have been discovered by one of our volunteers, Rick, at the hall.

Largest ever discovery of 'witch marks' found in Fakenham Tesco, with a fine selection of Quaker curses to boot... Halloween must be near...

I'd forgotten about this little beauty. C11th century carved ivory plaque, originally discovered in North Elmham in Norfolk, and now in the lovely museum of archaeology and anthropology in Cambridge. Well worth a visit.

It's the feast day of King Edward the Confessor, Richard II's patron saint. It's also the 625th anniversary of the coronation of Henry IV, the cousin who deposed Richard and took his throne. 👑🦅🦌
