Qatar, Oman and Kuwait are pushing behind closed doors for a swift end to the war. The UAE, Saudi ‌Arabia and Bahrain say they are ready to absorb an escalation of the war and will not accept a post-war Iran that is still able to use the Strait of Hormuz as a bargaining chip.

DUBAI, March 27 (Reuters) - Gulf Arab states are telling the U.S. that any deal with Tehran should do more than end the war, and must permanently curb Iran's missile and drone capabilities and ensure global energy supplies are never again "weaponised", four Gulf sources said.

@WeCantSuck4ever @NathanJRobinson Canals are different because they must be constructed, maintained, and operated at great expense, which is not the case with a strait. Your broader point about their whining about international law stands, though.

@NathanJRobinson It's pretty funny that they are whining about this when you consider that The Egyptians (an American vassal) charges tolls to go through the Suez. In the might makes right world these cretins prefer, if you can control the waterway, you can charge a toll.

I don't necessarily disagree with you actually. However, it is Israel that wants regional hegemony. Only two countries stand in their way: the US and Iran. If we pull out of the ME completely. Israel may use nuclear weapons. Bibi is that crazy. Alternatively, Israel will destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and blame it on Iran. A false flag to provoke a war. Many believe Israel was actually behind the World Trade Center attack on 9/11. Destroying the Al-Aqsa Mosque will definitely start a Persian/Arab war. Israel is masterful at getting other countries to fight its wars.

This might be a long war. If it is a long war the United States should try to win it. The prerequisite for winning it is similar to what would be needed to win a war against China: Complete military reform, drone manufacturing capacity, energy resilience. Let's go.

@Horn_Esquire @idreesali114 Yes it would. The US should not have a military presence in the ME. As long as it does, it will continue to be dragged into conflicts like this.

Mmm. I think that would effectively end our alliances with them. Because of our war for Israel, they effectively forfeit their claim to the Strait. They can't match Iran militarily. The whole reason we have bases there is to protect their interests in the Persian Gulf. They'd kick is out. That would destabilize our relationships with the other Gulf States as well. Since Iran would probably start charging a toll for safe passage. I think it's a non-starter without UAE and Oman support. And that may just provoke a Persian v Arab war over it. Which also is not a good outcome.

Well, I guess my point is: if we (the US) recognize Iran has control over the Strait, it means Oman and the UAE (who arguably have an equal claim to it) have no claim to it. Shouldn't we get their approval before legitimizing Iran's claim to it? On the other hand, Iran currently controls it. And as I said in my original post I don't see that changes without regime change. And most Americans do NOT want boots on the ground.

@Mediocre4All @idreesali114 They are the other two countries with land on the Strait. I'm against regime change wars. I'm also against giving another country's land away without their permission.

I'm OK with those conditions. I thought abandoning our bases was also one of them. But Israel needs to be the one to pay the reparations. I'm also not sure if we can make an agreement on behalf of Oman and UAE. They'd have to agree. I'd also be ok lifting the sanctions on Iran. It's sort of a vicious cycle that helps keep the regime in power. The people of Iran are good people.

@Horn_Esquire @idreesali114 Iran is already allowing passage to vessels belonging to entities that don’t support the war against it, and have put forth clear and reasonable conditions for cessation of their hostilities. What reason do we have to doubt their word?

It's the Israel regime. And for whatever reason they have undie and inappropriate influence over our government. But Americans are finally waking up to it and. I don't necessarily disagree about pulling out. My worry is that it won't solve anything if we pull out. I do agree that US support for Israel needs to end. Immediately. They cause us nothing but problems. They want regional hegemony and just provoked a war between the two countries in their way. I personally believe Israel wants the US out of the Middle East, which is the secondary gain of this war. And those lunatics are already talking about Turkey next. My concern also is our credibility with the Gulf States is on the line. We are supposed to protect them from this exact thing. What makes you think Iran will open the Strait if we pull out? (Honest question.)

@Horn_Esquire @idreesali114 Israel would not be able to continue its belligerence without US support. Iran has proven to be much more level-headed and rational than the US/Israel ME regime and it makes sense for it to take a regional stewardship role. US can and should just pull out.

It can be. It should be. I'm not saying I personally want regime change in Iran. I was against this war from the beginning. But we can't just pull out now. We are boxed in. If we pull out there is no guarantee Israel will stop bombing or stealing land on Lebanon. And no guarantee Iran will open the Strait. Or threaten to close it to get concessions from the Gulf States. This was their true nuclear option if we invaded. But now the cat is out of the bag. Let's just pray Israel didn't do something really dumb like use a nuclear weapon.

That's not at all what I believe. Stop trying to tell me what I believe. This is a lose/lose situation. We have empowered Iran. They have more leverage now than before the war. Why would they give any concessions? Israel wants regime change. That may be our only way out. Which is bullshit. I voted for no more regime change wars.

@idreesali114 The only way this war ends is with the Strait of Hormuz open. And to ensure it stays open. That (unfortunately) probably means regime change. Thank Bibi for this dumb war.
