@Andy_LCMD @sellingshovels @NathieVR I imagine GenAI tools can use a much weaker scan to get good enough to be able to generate a room with enough fidelity for background while riding a roller coaster.

@sellingshovels @NathieVR Since the roller coaster is virtual, there’s no camera on it. Generating the physical scene requires scanning the living room with a 3D scanner.

This mixed reality app lets you create and ride thrilling rollercoasters in your own living room. It uses physics-based tools to design tracks that adapt to your space and then simply hop in the front seat for a first-person ride like no other.

@MiamiAJ4 @ONLYinDADE This is the American international concourse. They have an internal CBP/immigration check... it's not TSA as far as I understand.

@KentMurphy The Marlins 2003 run was the definition of magical. From WC to this ending to the Bartman game (5 hours from elimination), to beating the Yanks in the WS. Too bad @Marlins routinely blow any goodwill they create in the city.

Our scientific paper was accepted in the journal Florida Entomologist. We describe for the first time how the Pine Rockland trapdoor spider possibly consumed the invasive New Guinea flatworm. We are beyond excited to continue learning and sharing our findings on #SaveASpiderDay

Like many things it kind of depends on what you're trying to assess as a teacher or what you're trying to build or improve as a reader Some key skills that probably benefit from text-based books: - Reading through long pieces of text with stamina, which is a skill that we are kind of losing these days. - Being able to develop a mental image in your head. - Getting used to longer syntax and trickier paragraphs. - Reading without the support of images While these aren't the only important parts, they are elements that we do have to think about and it might be better to frame things in a way that identifies that people who are dismissive of graphic novels and people who support them probably have really great points that are worth considering for literacy.

Some adults worry that graphic novels and comics “don’t count” as reading. But children reading them are practicing exactly what strong readers do: Following narrative structure. Interpreting visual information. Connecting dialogue and context. Comprehension is on every page.

@DanaPalubiak I don't know if my son would be as voracious as he is, and his younger sister copying him if he had not stumbled into Cap't Underpants graphic books at a young age. Now, he's in 4th grade, reads books like Ender's Game and anything else you throw at him.

@shaedapk yeah spaced repetition literally solved memorization, it's been around for decades, and I've literally never heard of teachers using it in US schools so much misery cramming for tests. complete waste of time. memorization is ~free with good anki decks. it's insanely dumb

@gryffonator @TheCinesthetic Ah yes, thrilling stuff: trade disputes over taxation of shipping lanes, endless Senate politics, and the Jedi just inheriting a mystery army. The prequels weren’t good stories told badly. They were bad stories made worse by bad acting and too much CGI.

@karol @tally8076 @ChristinaPushaw But they are intertwined. Areaa are safer if there are kids around and about. Other kids being out is integral which is why Matt said it could be done, but it is difficult. I live in an affluent area (Pinecrest/Palmetto Bay) and see a fraction of the kids out than early 90s.

@tally8076 @ChristinaPushaw The second part of that is far more a challenge for us than the screens. My kids are 16, 13 and 10 and have a lot of interests and stuff they want to do and try. We balance best we can.

@hilarym99 The educational world will do what it can to make money. Like anything else. However where Chromebooks and iPads provided almost on value over a teacher, AI does.

The problem with the educational world is that someone will use this, without pointing out the group they tested it on was 60 Taiwanese 14-year-olds taking chemistry, and use it to sell “personalized intervention” for like, struggling 8-year-olds with ADHD
Wendy@teachthemx3

Published today: Students using a structured AI coach significantly outperformed traditional teacher led instruction, with the biggest gains from those starting behind. Almost like individualized instruction works better than the one size fits all approach.

@orzelc I didn't understand area/volume formulas and what they were getting at until the middle of high school. I don't know if it would have happened without rote memorizing and familiarity built for years before....No matter how much my teacher is tried.
