Opisywano ją jako procedurę trwającą około piętnastu minut, przeprowadzoną w obecności lekarki, zgodnie z wolą kobiety. W mediach pojawiła się informacja, że zastosowano sekwencję leków obejmującą najpierw midazolam, następnie propofol, a na końcu rokuronium. Midazolam jest lekiem uspokajającym i przeciwlękowym, który zmniejsza napięcie, wycisza i ogranicza świadomość tego, co się dzieje. Propofol jest silnym dożylnym lekiem anestetycznym, który pogłębia sedację aż do utraty przytomności i wprowadza pacjenta w stan głębokiego snu. Rokuronium działa inaczej. Nie jest lekiem usypiającym ani przeciwbólowym, lecz środkiem zwiotczającym mięśnie, który blokuje przewodnictwo nerwowo-mięśniowe i powoduje porażenie mięśni szkieletowych, również mięśni oddechowych. W praktyce oznacza to, że po wcześniejszym farmakologicznym uspokojeniu i zniesieniu świadomości podaje się lek, który odbiera możliwość oddychania, prowadząc do śmierci. Z niektórych doniesień wynika, że po wykonaniu eutanazji pacjentki zaplanowano pobranie narządów do transplantacji. Wbrew temu, co sam przypuszczałem, sama okoliczność podania rokuronium nie wyklucza pobrania narządów do transplantacji. Z technicznego punktu widzenia oznacza to, że śmierć człowieka na drodze tzw. "wspomaganego samobójstwa" może zostać bardzo szybko wpisana również w logikę transplantacyjną. Według mnie właśnie tutaj ujawnia się cały ciężar moralny tej sprawy, jeszcze większy od samej legalizacji zabijania ludzi na zyczenie. Pobieranie organów od osób poddawanych eutanazji jest rozwiązaniem fatalnym, ponieważ tworzy bardzo niebezpieczny konflikt interesów. Obok deklarowanego "dobra pacjenta" (sprzedawanego jako "odejście na własnych warunkach czy "godnego umierania") zaczyna bowiem istnieć także interes systemu transplantacyjnego, zapotrzebowanie na narządy i presja organizacyjna. W takiej sytuacji granica między opieką nad człowiekiem a użytecznością jego śmierci zaczyna się niebezpiecznie zacierać. Dlatego uważam, że jest to jedno z najbardziej ponurych zjawisk współczesnej bioetyki, coś, co bardzo trafnie można określić mianem cywilizacji śmierci.
