We have to be a naive nation to believe these plans. 1. During my tenure as a mayor of the city, my administration managed to attract over R17b investments in the city in the 2018/19 financial year, a record for the city. 2. The Inner City Rejuvenation Plan, already approved by Council, was going to yield the following results: - R32b in construction projects from the 154 properties the city awarded to the private sector - 22k permanent employment during the construction phase - 14k housing units, a record for any municipality in South Africa. Our condition to the private sector was that 30% of the units for low income households. We were over subscribed even with this condition some will claim to be socialist. All what I am reporting here are facts in the city’s archives. The question we need to ask ourselves is why then Helen Zille will have the audacity to negotiate with the ANC for my removal. She is on record confirming this. The other deliberate omission is that there was never any follow up by the DA in Council about the execution of these Council approved plans. The private sector that won these tenders lost a lot of money when Geoff Makhubo took over power, compliments of the DA, asking JPC to put those projects on hold as they were Mashaba’s projects. Only after the 2021 LGE was ActionSA the only party that brought a Motion in Council to revisit those reports. Because of no support from all other parties in Council, including the DA, the current mayor is literally refusing to cooperate with Council approved reports. Our friends in the media, I find it very strange why this is a matter not attracting your attention. Just two weeks ago, the mayor of the city of Tshwane, in her first Investment Summit, attracted over R16b from the private sector to invest in Tshwane, with conditions to accommodate poor communities and students. Please, don’t create an impression that Helen Zille is the only qualified person to run this country.
