With the announcement of the schools white paper, of course our first thought is the children. But I can’t help thinking about SENDCOs. The workload is already relentless. Without protected time, proper support and real funding, these reforms risk piling even more onto a role

@MrEFinch The funding is also not there so for the children with significant need, it is necessary to request an EHC assessment to get funding for the additional support. In the meantime being creative with provision in mainstream settings but it depends on the needs across your context…

For all of those children to have an EHCP because I could meet their needs in class through that mix of good class teaching and targeted support. The difference, of course, is that when Mrs Retta retired she wasnt replaced so there's no one to do Toe-by-Toe or go through

🧵 As a headteacher now, I look back on School Action and School Action Plus with a degree of fondness. He child who really needed a statement of special educational need had one. The child who needed to go out with Mrs Retta for twenty minutes and do Toe-by-Toe or go
Sam Strickland@Samstricko181

If the SEND leaks are true I really worry where this will leave families, children & schools. I question/worry about… - A return to action/action + under a new name - Who will determine a child’s SEND needs - The workload of SENDCos

@llewelyn20 What about the time the SENDCo & teachers take to write school views, gather family & child views & provide all the supporting evidence only for the LA to turn round & refuse to assess. Then suggest a ‘moving forward together’ meeting for us to spend time re-submitting it all…

Blimey. Less than half of EHCPs completed in the statutory time frame. This is just LA professionals, imagine the time spent by Sendcos and teachers. Time spent on process for new EHCPs by local authority professionals - GOV.UK gov.uk/government/pub…

@SwailesRuth All EY staff know that ‘themed’ roleplay areas are not purposeful if our children have no experience of that situation. Build on what they know with the right enhancements and quality interactions. All about context… Grrrr to those who just don’t get it!!!

Well, it looks like role play is next in the firing line. It seems that some Ofsted inspectors (and now some consultants and advisors) are expressing preferences which appear to be very ill informed. That’ll give me something to write about in the next few weeks !

@sneekysheneeky Gosh I don’t really know…🤣 if anyone could see inside my brain it would look like my laptop with several tabs open!!🤣 I think I’ve got better at saying ‘no, not yet’ to requests and not getting so upset about not being able to finish things.

Ministers have suggested rising numbers of assistant heads could be the place to target cost-cutting as schools are forced to make savings to fund future teacher pay rises. So what’s behind the rise, and is a cut do-able? schoolsweek.co.uk/can-schools-re…

Rest in peace, Patricia Routledge 🙏🏻 In memory of her, I encourage everyone to read these words of hers from February last year. Whether young or old, you're bound to get something out of it. ***** "I’ll be turning 95 this coming Monday. In my younger years, I was often filled with worry — worry that I wasn’t quite good enough, that no one would cast me again, that I wouldn’t live up to my mother’s hopes. But these days begin in peace, and end in gratitude. My life didn’t quite take shape until my forties. I had worked steadily — on provincial stages, in radio plays, in West End productions — but I often felt adrift, as though I was searching for a home within myself that I hadn’t quite found. At 50, I accepted a television role that many would later associate me with — Hyacinth Bucket, of Keeping Up Appearances. I thought it would be a small part in a little series. I never imagined that it would take me into people’s living rooms and hearts around the world. And truthfully, that role taught me to accept my own quirks. It healed something in me. At 60, I began learning Italian — not for work, but so I could sing opera in its native language. I also learned how to live alone without feeling lonely. I read poetry aloud each evening, not to perfect my diction, but to quiet my soul. At 70, I returned to the Shakespearean stage — something I once believed I had aged out of. But this time, I had nothing to prove. I stood on those boards with stillness, and audiences felt that. I was no longer performing. I was simply being. At 80, I took up watercolour painting. I painted flowers from my garden, old hats from my youth, and faces I remembered from the London Underground. Each painting was a quiet memory made visible. Now, at 95, I write letters by hand. I’m learning to bake rye bread. I still breathe deeply every morning. I still adore laughter — though I no longer try to make anyone laugh. I love the quiet more than ever. I’m writing this to tell you something simple: Growing older is not the closing act. It can be the most exquisite chapter — if you let yourself bloom again. Let these years ahead be your TREASURE YEARS. You don’t need to be famous. You don’t need to be flawless. You only need to show up — fully — for the life that is still yours. With love and gentleness, Patricia Routledge ***** Once more, rest in peace. 🤍

@hannahmickm @Bakes_1 I agree. Scotland played rugby, whilst England played a lot of kicking. Arguable ref decisions along with a Finn Russell off day. Didn’t bode well for a good match. From an 🇮🇪 fan with a 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@Bakes_1 This is an opinion I can fully respect. Did Scotland play their best today and deserve to win by a miles stretch? Absolutely not. But that scoreline should've been flipped, Scotland played the better rugby and that first try was a free 7 points. This is refreshing to read!

As an England fan we did not deserve to win. Try should have been disallowed and referee decisions all went our way. Scotland should quite rightly be well pissed off #ENGvSCO

Really disappointed about the referee decisions in the #EngSco game including the ‘over the top’ ball steal from Itoje that he knew he got away with, the boos from the English fans at times and I thought the decision had been made that Swing Low was no longer to be sung…!!! 🇮🇪
