@PaulJamesGames There has always been a salary cap, but it had preset payment tiers.
English

I guess I’ve not payed attention… but sorry, what?! How can you lack the competition integrity to not have a salary cap up until now.
Wild. A great change, a super important one, but insane it didn’t exist before
AFL Women's@aflwomens
The AFL has announced a restructure that will see AFLW recognised at its executive level under Laura Kane and confirmed the first change will be the introduction of a salary cap. Read the full details: afl.com.au/aflw/news/1487…

@damoj88 @petergotsis1 @superfooty @RalphyHeraldSun @LaurenHeraldSun Missed the part about her running one of the strongest women's clubs before the national league existed, then building one of the strongest AFLW programs.
English

@petergotsis1 @superfooty @RalphyHeraldSun @LaurenHeraldSun No. No, she didn’t. She was at North Melbourne in Footy Ops working under Hood in 2016 AFTER the AFLW was already in existence, and was operating for 5 seasons before she even stepped in the doors of AFL House.
English

A major shake-up of AFL Women’s will see Laura Kane take the reins of the women’s game.

@7AFL Kane has apparently never heard of Lance Franklin.
English

@awcwvlc Thought the tweet was going to be about batting in the in/correct helmet. Gardner's had the men's coat of arms (red scroll + gold text) on Sunday... It's all falling apart.
English

@GlennJBirrell @tommorris32 Might contradict the Daisy Pearce Rule, where the AFL gifts Toyotas to select players at will.
English

@tommorris32 Will Mazdas now come under the salary Cap??
English

The AFL & AFLPA are on the cusp of finalising a salary cap model to come into AFLW for the 2027 season (the last season of the current CBA).
It will allow players and clubs greater flexibility than the current tier structure.
There’s a few sticking points being ironed out but it’s on the agenda for the AFLW Competition Committee next week. 💰

@footyindustryAU The last 5 admins got nowhere with Origin. The next 5 will get nowhere with it. But the current guy is the problem, not the concept itself...
English

And there it is.Another pointless failure because all you can deliver are half assed, watered down, wishy washy, namby pamby crap. Commit to something for once in your goddamned lives.
Then again, at this rate, theres no guarantee that Dillon will be the one making the decision next year. For the love of christ, just give me an new administration already.
AFL.com.au@AFLcomau
Andrew Dillon can't guarantee AFL Origin will become an annual match, with clubs given the ability to put players on restrictions. afl.com.au/news/1463754

@kateemac9 Probably would've been if she managed 2 tackles per game.
English

Gold Coast Suns AFLW BnF results:
🥇Charlie Rowbottom
🥈Havana Harris
🥉Lucy Single
How Niamh McLaughlin didn’t finish in the top 3 is staggering 🤯 #AFLW
English

@camvoss @LaurenHeraldSun @austadiums Excluding that game entirely would just drop last year's H&A average further below this year, rendering poor Lauren's article even more inaccurate. Nice going.
English

@MelbourneMixta1 @LaurenHeraldSun @austadiums If you want to believe 23,000 attended an AFLW match last year, because it was played as a curtain-raiser before an AFL Final at the G, with the figure taken when the final siren went, with MCC members in the ground purely to secure a seat, then go for it. AFLW crowds are rubbish
English

I can’t reply to this tweet but to suggest that coverage of key issues in #AFLW that players, coaches & officials are all talking about with concern is “coincidental” in Pride weeks is a link I really take umbrage with having long supported inclusion in all forms of the game.
Nikki Clare@Niksterisms
Pride rounds are the biggest media coverage for the AFLW every year. For the right reasons. Seems coincidental some media outlets use this time to also talk about crowd numbers & the same old ‘where is the AFLW at?’ Why not focus on the AFLHQ & ask what they’re doing to market it
English

@camvoss @LaurenHeraldSun @austadiums Yes incomplete, and therefore useless. Several yearly figures are off by at least 10% in one direction or the other. The AFL makes the official data easily accessible.
English

@MelbourneMixta1 @LaurenHeraldSun @austadiums Incomplete? The AFLW crowd figures on @austadiums are spot on. Yes 2022 includes both seasons that were played that year, but everything is there & correct. Unfair calling out Lauren for saying how it is. 🤷♂️
English

@LaurenHeraldSun @austadiums You're using incomplete Austadiums figures, which also combines the two 2022 seasons. Even including finals, 2025 is also ahead of 2021. The AFL annual report makes all this info clear, for e.g.:

English

@MelbourneMixta1 The lowest was in 2022, as indicated here. (Via @austadiums for ease of display). This year’s average currently second-lowest since competition inception - when avg crowd was almost 7,000.

English

"It doesn't sit super well with me that a club that came into the competition from day one ... has [had] a lot of their talent (taken) away from them."
🗣️ @kateemac9 on how the Giants have been stunted by Sydney in the AFLW
English

@NicNegrepontis @marnievinall The allegation is somebody at the AFL was doing their job and following the competition rules, per 4.6.c (iii): When determining trade approval, the "overall impact of the trade on competitive balance of the competition" will be considered.
English

@marnievinall Don't doubt him whatsoever, but a pretty serious allegation to suggest the league effectively fabricated the competitive balance of the comp.
I 100% believe him personally.
English

Former AFLW coach Nathan Burke has said the league played a heavy hand in blocking trades and getting star players to move to expansion clubs, contributing to the current competitive imbalance in the competition.

English

@ClareCosy Watch those articles magically dry up when the "right" clubs finally start winning.
English

@HPNfooty GWS article does mention multiple AFLW players. Just doesn't mention the current one who plays for Sydney, because "GIANTS media" are petty.
English

Wee little observation about mens v womens sport and what gets considered default / relevant - two primary school competitions named after footballers and both articles mention the AFLM player but only one mentions the AFLW one

@marnievinall @abcsport 2024 H&A total of 263,452 (ave 2661) is the figure before any discounts. 2023 H&A was 234,525 (ave 2606).
Also, 2024 H&A + finals total was 308,981 (not 297k), per p.59 and p.97 of the AFL Annual Report.
English

@MelbourneMixta1 @abcsport From my understanding, some games, such as those that had crowds under 1000 and were midweek due to the condensed fixture, were not counted due to being so unfavourable for fans.
English

A deep dive in AFLW crowds and what the league plans to do about it.
Latest for @abcsport: abc.net.au/news/2025-07-2…
English

@MelbourneMixta1 @abcsport Crowds went from averages in the 6000s in the first few years to mid 2000s in the last few. Plenty of reasons for it (mentioned) but they are down. 2023 had a highest ave than 2024.
English

@WillcocksSimon @bradeningram @FootyonNine @9NewsAdel Zero chance cricket would let footy play there 2-3 weeks before a Test match, regardless of the outcome here.
English

@bradeningram @FootyonNine @9NewsAdel And what happens if the Crows of Power qualify for an AFLW Grand Final this year? This decision is going to bite the AFL in the arse.
English

Breaking - I can confirm Adelaide Oval WON’T host the Sheffield Shield Final.
AFL deterred by fears ground transformation couldn’t be completed in time for Crows game.
Karen Rolten Oval to host final.
