I have worked in human resources management and public relations for 20 years…. I have literally recruited thousands of people into employment in the Australian mining industry,
into high-paying, high-demand, positions paying $150,000 year minimum. I have also created pre-employment training and employment programs for some of the biggest global mining companies that specifically target young people who have no experience, have not completed any high school, and cannot even read or write…..
They say in recruitment that you spend three seconds looking at a résumé, and if you don’t see something that catches your eye, you move on—the same interviewing people. Once somebody has come, shook my hand, and sat down ready for an interview, I already know if I’m going to hire them or not……. You just get a feeling - Intuition is really important and you just know…. Because that’s how people carried themselves it’s small indicators that show you if theyre trustworthy, it’s how they spoke to the receptionist when they arrived all those different things…. It all comes down to who they are….. Because you can teach anyone any skill set-But you can’t teach them to have the right character.
…… please tell your daughter - the most impressive, intelligent, capable, people I have ever hired and who have gone on to have the most significant success - did not have a university degree when they stepped into my office…… they did not even have a high school certificate ……. And It didn’t matter….
Those things show that you can learn - because intelligence is not taught at university, and the skills and qualities that make someone truly impressive you are born with- when you find someone who has the right mix of characteristics and traits that is backed up with a true passion or desire to succeed along with humility and kindness and ability to engage with people - if it feels good to be around you ….. who have a work ethic and want to jump in and be a part of it…. these are the people who succeeded….. these other people who I employ over and above people who have a degree and who every time end up being the most successful…..
What will make your daughter successful in life she already has inside - she had it when she did her exams. It’s all the way through high school -she always had it…… it was never going to be a university degree - with or without that piece of paper, it was always going to be her that people wanted for any job…..
No one will ever ask what grades you get at school.
No one will ever ask what marks you got at university.
They won’t know if you have to do a bridging course to get in or even a different course, i.e., my ex-husband didn’t get the high school ATAR score he wanted to get into a 4-year mining engineer degree. So he did a 3 yr bachelor of science majoring in Mining…. Today, he is the operations manager of the third largest gold one in the world, producing $1 billion in gold annually. ….. and this guy couldn’t pass a high school maths exam …. It Doesn’t matter.
She already has what is going to make her most successful—it doesn’t matter how you get there…. Just get there, put your best foot forward, and show people who you really are. That is the best way to get into the career you want….
Walking to a job interview totally open to the person you’re about to meet and just be yourself people love that shit.…. be unapologetically yourself. Be real. If she tells a recruiter the story about how she didn’t get the grade she wanted and what she did after that they will love that. …. Business is about overcoming adversity problems - it’s a life skill
(I have even received awards from the Prime Minister of Australia for the training and employment programs I have created being the best in the country, twice - I genuinely give her my word on this one xxx)
Be disappointed; she’s allowed to be - as long as she gets back up and dusts herself off because it’s going to be okay xxx
