My proposal: after a certain age you should skip the happy birthday song and cut the cake. I honestly find the song awkward, and I'd rather just start eating the cake.

Another time, class was called off for 5 days because there was a giant landslide on the main road outside the school

In 6th grade and living in Guatemala, my school caught on fire. Some people had bought the lot next door to it and set the whole thing on fire (to help the soil or something, idk), and when the wind changed, the flames vented into my school.
