I still don’t see any clear “confirmation” of a back 3 yet.
If anything, Pep Chavarria hints towards some back 4 usage.
His only real/clear edge is the fact he’s a pure LB (more suited to a 4, than others).
Alonso clearly wants that profile in the squad.

I don’t think Palestra is an 100% confirmation of a back 3. I just think he’s an attacking FB for when that’s what we need. Obviously WB ready too. With how we’ve often played (one FB stays, the other goes) it’s much better to have specialist defensive FBs or clear attacking FBs. Gusto/Cucurella are very good all rounders and players in isolation. That’s not in doubt, but not exactly specialists that have offered us extreme value in either direction. The likes of Hato/Josh (defensive) + Palestra (offensive) are a move towards that direction. James obviously genuinely cracked both ways (unicorn). I like the emphasis on height/athleticism too. Good stuff.
