I met @scottostler in 1977 when we were youngsters at the @latimes, figuring out if we had a future in the sportswriting racket. He figured it out better than anyone, in wondrous & hilarious ways. And became a treasured pal. Congrats to my colleague of 49 years on a great career.

85 people have paid the $100,000 H-1B fee so far, totaling $8.5 million in revenue. But fee revenue from H-1B apps abroad is down $28 million.
So the fee — justified by a paper claiming the revenue-maximizing fee was >$100,000! — appears to have lost the government $20 million.

You’re right. Fans don’t care about corporations. But NFL franchises do. The $200 million in “improvements” for the Super Bowl was mostly spent on corporate suites & premium seating, not anything for average fans. Guess where Nvidia, Meta, Apple, Adobe, eBay, Zoom HQs are?

This is where I again explain that more people (and more NFL fans) live in San Jose than in San Francisco & more 49ers season ticket holders live in the South Bay than in SF. It’s a lovely city. But the NFL is a business. It goes where customers are, not where the postcards are.
