In 1971, a teenage girl in Peru was flying with her mother on a commercial plane for Christmas.
Her name was Juliane Koepcke.
The plane was struck by lightning mid-air.
It exploded. And broke apart over the Amazon rainforest. Passengers were thrown into the sky. Almost everyone died. But Juliane…
fell 10,000 feet.
Still strapped to her seat. She crashed through the rainforest canopy, branches tearing her fall, like a natural parachute. And somehow she survived at 17 years old.
With:
• a broken collarbone
• deep cuts
• parasites already forming in her wounds
• no food
• no help
• no idea where she was and the jungle around her was full of predators, insects, and deadly rivers.
Most people would have died within a day.
But Juliane remembered something her father had taught her:
Follow water downstream. It will lead to people.
So she walked alone for 11 days through the Amazon. Sleeping on the ground. Drinking river water and Fighting infection.
On the 11th day, she found a small hut used by local loggers.
They discovered her, helped her, and she was rescued.
She was the only survivor of the crash.
A teenage girl fell from the sky…
Landed in the Amazon…
And walked out alive.
