For the people who genuinely care about physical media, it ties directly into game preservation. We already know that Xbox Series consoles feature Smart Delivery, in which most discs contain no data. This defeats the purpose of game preservation, and I doubt Xbox has any interest in walking this back in future consoles. In the very low chance they offer a means to preserve games, I doubt anyone will take it at face value.

Question for PlayStation users who I see very annoyed about the elimination of physical format in 2028, if the next Xbox is announced with physical format would you switch consoles 🤔

The Difference between Xbox bad news and PlayStation bad news is that PlayStation fans recognize the issue for what it is. They might think it's terrible, or that it isn't as bad as people think it is, but it's universally recognized as bad. While certain Xbox fans are on a constant carousel, where they pretend it isn't nearly as bad as it is, and everything's fine.

@XboxTimdog Xbox Smart Delivery feature defeats the purpose of physical media. Most Xbox games with that feature require the internet to use to download the game. Most Xbox Series physical games have that feature. It's equivalent to the Nintendo Game Key cards

Xbox should continue to make physical discs. Easy fanfare win.

Not the best decision from @PlayStation , but money talks.... If they lose more money than they intend to save by stopping physical media, then they'll probably reverse decision the same way closing the PSN store was considered very unpopular for older consoles and handhelds back in 2021 and they reversed that decision.
