"Read books, because the data rate of reading is much greater than when somebody is speaking. What’s the output rate of speech? A couple hundred bits per second, maybe a few thousand per second if you’re going full tilt. You can get several times that by reading. The main reason I didn’t go to lectures in college was because the data rate was too slow." --@elonmusk

My experience of running an AI firm that works with Private Equity:
1. The industry is very cutthroat. Position yourself accordingly.
2. The lower-middle market is a different universe when compared to the middle and upper-middle market.
3. If you can’t track time saved / ROI, you may as well deem your solution useless.
4. Operators in PE are the best bullshit detectors on the planet.
5. There are no (or very few) 2nd chances.

@Matt_Titan_ Matt - we should have a conversation
Might be some whitespace we could explore here

I am building a private equity firm called TLG Equity, CEO of our first portfolio company in the roofing space, and startup founder.
We’ve triple revenue in under 2 years and improved EBITDA margin from 2% to 18%.
I’m building in public.
A lot of people talk about building publicly.
On the flip side, a lot of people also say to keep your head down and build quietly.
We have a few million committed to expand or go find the next deal from partners at some of the biggest PE and VC firms out there.
Do people like hearing about this?

@PadraicMcC Happy birthday!
What real implementations of AI are you seeing/actively using in some PortCo workflows?
An honour

Could be worth a chat

I don’t talk about privates too much on here but for my vc/pe friends…im looking at deals in the fire protection industry. Thesis is that increasing ai infrastructure buildouts (driving a surge in always-on electrical envts) = asymmetric fire risk…paired w the shortage of skilled trades people = supply/demand imbalance. Feels early too. Regulation + relationships are the moat. huge second order winner of ai revolution. dm me if involved/connected in this space.

@itswithinme_ Congrats. Excited to see what you do in the arena. All the best.

Today is my last full time day at my W2
Many lessons learned over the past year especially, which I will share on here
Most importantly, you must learn to trust the conviction placed inside of you. The truth is you know at Time 0 what the right decision to any decision point is. Don’t wait until Time 150 to make the decision. You lose time, yes. Worse, you lose internal peace battling with your conviction. Make the decision.

our friends at nimble gravity (data / ai consultancy) updated their public-facing "ai in private capital" materials. includes some great case studies across IB, credit, and PE. you can check it out here:

Trying to articulate that AI is an open battlefield
Operators at every experience level are in said battlefield
The more experienced ones that understand GTM, offer building, sales are able to offer a better (and more expensive) product
The latter are using it as their first ever side income from the internet
Both are flourishing
:)

@MersenaryPE Ahh you’re saying people selling $250 a month services probably haven’t built much before in their lives! Sorry I get it now
