UPDATE ON HEAVY RAINS WARNING EXPECTED OVER MOST AREAS FROM 07-9 JANUARY 2026. Date of issue: 6 January, 2026. Issue no: 2025/2026-3 Category 10 alerts are currently likely to affect Nkhotakota, Salima, parts of Mzimba, Chitipa, Nkhata Bay, Dowa Mchinji, Mulanje and Phalombe.

DCCMS wishes also to inform Malawians that the Tropical Storm GRANT which was coming from Australia side has now weakened and is moving towards Madagascar. With the projected path and intensity, GRANT has no direct impact over Malawi.
