@TierZoo Well, we now know his side of the story, which is that he sat them down (or on call) and discussed this with them, and gave them severance packages where appropriate. Which was the morally correct thing to do, and what I was advocating for.

do people think that youtubers are just supposed to bankrupt themselves to continue paying their staff when their business becomes unprofitable?

@Maddle_madds @TierZoo Just because it’s standard doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. We don’t know the exact circumstances but at least “this is the last project I can pay you for” would’ve been the right thing to do, assuming that’s not what happened. The way it’s phrased just sounds weird.

@TierZoo That’s such a dishonest reply now that I’ve had more time to think about it. Giving notice =/= fire them sooner or have anything to do with why they’re suddenly unemployed. I’m honestly disappointed.

@Metroidrocks224 so... he should have fired them sooner? is that the point you're making? Perhaps he still believed he could turn it around. Maybe a big project got stuck in development purgatory and burned through a budget. There are dozens of mundane reasons for this type of result.

@ItsCygni @TierZoo Logical =/= ethical. I understand what you’re saying, too, but as a human being, even if he owes them nothing, what he did was morally wrong, even if it’s legal or logical.

@Metroidrocks224 @TierZoo That was probsbly his thought process before the last video or few videos. It didn’t turn it around. Look I get your point man. But just be logical. He is the owner, he owes no info to the employees and only puts the business at risk. He ended the business.

@ItsCygni @TierZoo If it gets to that point anyways it’s probably not going to turn around. At the very least, a “hey, if this video doesn’t knock itn out of the park, I’m not gonna be able to pay you to work on more videos” would’ve been better than what it looks like right now.

@ItsCygni @TierZoo If not, that’s where it’s fucked up. Knowing the ship is sinking and choosing to tell no one until the last second is fucked up. Sure, he’s under no obligation to say anything, but that doesn’t mean it’s an okay thing to do.

@ItsCygni @TierZoo Because it would be the right thing to do? Now these people are out of a job with no warning, and even if they have a backup plan it could screw them over. There’s a middle ground between “no notice” and making people panic and leave (assuming they could find work that fast).

@Metroidrocks224 @TierZoo That is what you are saying. If he knew he was 100% going to fire them, why wait. If he wasn’t 100%, why say “yeah things look fucking awful”. That will just make them panic and possibly leave even if things turn around. It’s a lose lose situation. It sucks but it’s business.

@ItsCygni @TierZoo Yeah, which he should’ve known ahead of time. Letting them know, “hey I might have to let you all go if this doesn’t go well” or something is better than just firing them out of the blue.

@Metroidrocks224 @TierZoo More than likely he’s been in the red for a while, tried to keep it afloat, and did the last resort when he was out of funds. Or he decided the red is too negative to keep going. If he is replacing them with AI, fuck him, but we haven’t even heard his side.

@ItsCygni @TierZoo What I’m saying is, he knew this was going to happen before it did, or should’ve known. He should have told them that it wasn’t looking good when he knew that instead of just firing them with zero notice. I’m not saying paying them to do nothing, or bankrupt himself.

Fire them slowly and pay them to do nothing? It sucks but if you are an animator for a YouTuber and think it will last forever

@ItsCygni @TierZoo Because it’s fucked up to fire your employees with no notice? Like, if he knew he was going to have to fire them, the least he could do is give them notice so they have a chance to start looking for a new job and minimize the gap.

@Metroidrocks224 @TierZoo If he knew he was times were going to be really tough and that he didn’t have the budget to support it anymore, why would he wait? You are assuming he didn’t try to turn it around and just gave up without knowing. There comes a point you know there’s no going back
