The meaning of #woke was intentionally propagandized when passion for social change, including efforts to end racism in policing, housing, lending, healthcare, etc, was growing. This propaganda was a part of the fear-mongering around a more just, diverse, inclusive society. Now, the word “woke” is often used as a synonym for too diverse, too inclusive, too concerned about the well-being of all. But we need an awakening…and a revolution of values. Dec 2, 2024, marked the National Day of Rest for Black Women, a day to prioritize the peace, joy, and restoration we so deeply deserve. It’s another beautiful reminder that we are worthy of rest every day and in every way. I chose to embrace self-care and rest for my own healing.
