🚨 Another piece of Canadian heritage is being erased — and the CBC is helping bury it. Hockey Night in Canada — a Saturday night tradition for nearly **75 years** on public television — is gone from CBC starting next season. A Senate committee member just said it straight: CBC “dropped the puck” on this. It’s disappointing that Canada’s national game won’t be freely available to all Canadians anymore. The sublicensing deal between Rogers and the CBC expired after the playoffs. Now Rogers’ massive 12-year, **$11 billion** NHL rights deal kicks in for 2026-27 — and the national games are moving behind paywalls on Sportsnet and other platforms. While you’re still forced to pay taxes to fund the CBC, they’re letting go of one of the last things that actually brought the whole country together on the same night, at the same time, for free. This isn’t “market forces.” This is a public broadcaster failing its basic job while the Liberal government watches Canadian identity get sliced up and sold off piece by piece. They’ll lecture you about “protecting Canadian culture” when it suits them… but when it’s actually time to protect something real — something that’s been part of this country since the 1950s — they shrug and say “too bad.” How much more of our heritage are we supposed to watch them erase before we push back?
