The Okada Rider’s Blessing In the chaotic streets of Lagos, Chinedu balanced his rickety okada between yellow danfo buses and okada riders who drove like the devil himself was chasing them. The driver, a big man in agbada, rolled down the window. “You need fuel?” he asked. Chinedu nodded, expecting to beg. The man gave him a full jerrycan and extra money. “I was once like you,” he said. “Mama Ngozi fed me too when I had nothing.” Chinedu reached the stall the next evening and tried to pay Mama Ngozi double. She laughed. “Keep it. Just remember—every small kindness you give is an investment. One day your own okada will become a fleet.” That night, Chinedu understood: in Naija, nobody truly makes it alone. The road is long, but the people along it are the real fuel.
