Practicing safe boating is important to help keep you and those around you safe while out on the water. Before heading out, make sure everyone onboard is wearing a life jacket, safety equipment is easily accessible, and weather conditions are checked ahead of time. Always boat sober, stay alert of your surroundings and let someone know your plans before leaving the dock.

Rip currents are powerful water currents that flow away from the shore, capable of carrying even the most experienced swimmers out to sea. It’s important to learn how to identify and avoid getting caught in rip currents. Always swim near a lifeguard tower when lifeguards are on duty, and familiarize yourself with the meanings of the flags being flown. If you're unsure about the conditions, ask a lifeguard before entering the water. When in doubt, stay out. For more rip current safety tips, visit usla.org/page/RIPCURREN…
