Rip currents are powerful water currents that flow away from the shore, capable of carrying even the most experienced swimmers out to sea. It’s important to learn how to identify and avoid getting caught in rip currents. Always swim near a lifeguard tower when lifeguards are on duty, and familiarize yourself with the meanings of the flags being flown. It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of one of our own, Firefighter Hans Estrada. Your passing leaves a deep pain throughout the Miami Beach Fire Department family, and we will forever miss your smile, your presence and the impact you made on those around you. This heartbreaking loss is a reminder that mental health matters. Behind every uniform is a human being, and no one should struggle alone. We encourage anyone who may be hurting to reach out, speak up and lean on those around you for support. Rest easy brother. You will always be a part of our family and will never be forgotten.
