@MrOhio So...no one is saying it's a collection of the 12 best teams. That's not how it's designed. That's not what "THEY" want. It's the 10 or 1 1 best teams (depending on outcome), plus one or two of the smaller schools so they can say they were given a shot. That's it. Period.

The issue isn’t the expanded playoffs, it’s not taking the best 12 teams. Notre Dame and Texas would both beat James Madison and Tulane with ease. It’s cool for those schools, but they have zero shot at winning the title. We are choosing to give participation trophies over picking the best 12 teams.

@TheSharpeWit Now this I can get behind. The process is way more important than the final product. We need to devise a process that takes out as much wiggle room as possible. And it needs to be transparent. Make them vote on national TV. This cloak and dagger crap is for the birds.

So many people want to make this CFP debate about ND vs Bama vs Miami vs BYU. It isn’t. It’s about whether the committee manipulated the process to reach a desired result. The result might be correct — but that doesn’t excuse how they got there. Process matters, even when you like the outcome.

@J5_Sports1 “with no logical explanation being provided as to why” is a flat out lie. The committee has been asked just about every week why ND was ranked ahead of Miami, and they told everyone because they weren’t directly compared (meaning not in the same Tier).

Two things can be true regarding the Notre Dame playoff situation: 1. Notre Dame should’ve taken care of business vs Miami and/or Texas A&M to leave no doubt 2. Any program/fan base would be furious after being ranked high enough to make the playoff every single week of the rankings just to inexplicably have the rug pulled out from underneath you on the final ranking with no logical explanation being provided as to why

@SSN_Alabama How is that disrespect? They wouldn’t do that at Kent State or Temple. They did it at Alabama because a game there means something. It’s about as big a compliment as you can get. But some kids just feel the need for fake ire to “motivation”.

But we were told that Alabama has such a tough schedule every year that they can afford to lose 3 games in a season and still make the playoffs…

I remember being a kid during an era where nobody gave a shit about Notre Dame. My dad told me when Notre Dame is a National Title Contender every year, they’re the most hated team in the country. I doubted him. I don’t anymore. He was right all along. Thank you Coach Freeman

If we’re being real, it’s not about opting out of a bowl game. If Miami was left out of the CFP, yall would absolutely support them opting out. Most would support Bama opting out too. It’s Notre dame being independent that makes people mad.

Expansion alone isn’t the answer. Out of $48 million that will be paid to the 12 CFP teams (and distributed among their conferences) $32 million will go to schools where ESPN fully or almost fully owns the media rights (SEC, ACC, AAC, and SBC) Only $16 million will go to schools in conferences where ESPN doesn’t own the rights (B1G and Big 12). ESPN also doesn’t own the media rights for Notre Dame. Once you understand that, the double standards applying the selection criteria make sense: Of course we shouldn’t penalize Alabama for getting blown out in its CCG—the ESPN owned SEC makes ESPN more money! Of course we should penalize BYU for getting blown out in its CCG. The Big 12 won’t make ESPN more money! Of course the Big 12 is only a 1 bid league! And even better—penalizing BYU means we can make an excuse to swap Notre Dame (for which ESPN doesn’t own the rights) for Miami (for which ESPN DOES own the rights). Result: ESPN can better line its own pockets and invest in its own product. Why does all that matter? If we only expand the playoffs without structurally separating ESPN’s profits from playoff selection, the wrongs, the double standards, and the ridiculous narratives will continue, just on a larger scale. Instead, we’ll simply see 8 SEC teams in, 3-4 B1G, 1-2 Big 12, and likely 2 ACC despite that conferences’ clear weaknesses (whether the ACC is even still a P4 conference is a debate for another day, but the fact that a bad 5 loss Duke won the CCG is compelling evidence that it’s probably not). Until ESPN’s profits are wholly severed from the playoff selection process, ESPN’s CFB corruption will remain King.

Boise State (9-4 conference champ) Navy (9-2 Top 25) No FCS teams 10 P4 teams Notre Dame was favored by a combined spread of 230 points in those 10 games. They covered that spread by 67 points (297) That’s Pretty. Damn. Dominant.
