Michael Johnson might be getting all the sticks (and deservedly so), but there were journalists who actively hounded Tobi Amusan, writing articles that tried to discredit her. Even fellow athletes contributed to the level of scrutiny Tobi faced after that record. Because MJ had to even quote Cindy Ofili-Sember as saying in the mixed zone, "I thoroughly (thought) I was running slow..." when he doubted if the timer was accurate. She ran a British record of 12.50s, and then 12.38s in the final. Before that semis, her PB was 12.53s, so why would people think 0.03 was such a big leap? To journalists like Jonathan Gault and Cathal Dennehy - those ones wrote articles questioning the shoes she ran with, and were the first to amplify the AIU incident, thinking it would stick. I remember Jonathan even questioning if the wind gauge picked up midway in the race (semis). Cathal in Budapest, caused a scene in the mixed zone when he interrupted my interview with Tobi, asking her about the AIU suspension. It didn't end there, he wrote an article calling me "a fan with a smartphone," one for standing up to him, and also for using my voice as a Nigerian journalist to speak up for Tobi. Maybe he felt World Athletics shouldn't accredit me for subsequent World Champs. The witchhunt Tobi has faced is because she is Nigerian. I have seen her (African Games 2024) go through an arduous length to update her whereabouts, despite the then AFN Secretary (Rita Mosindi) sending an email of where all the Nigerian athletes can be found and their room numbers in Accra. There was an internet outage in Ghana for about 4days, but Tobi knowing what she had faced to clear her name in 2023, was driven for hours until she got stable network to update her portal. She couldn't rely solely on AFN's email, because if a system is out to get you, they won't stop until they do. Suddenly, 12.1s looks attainable because it's not a Nigerian running it now. I agree with you that the track community owe that girl an apology.... "let the apology be as loud as the doubt."

🗣️ “In 2022, when she ran fast, everyone had an opinion…now that the times have filled in these last few years since Eugene, suddenly that world record is legit.” After Masai Russell’s blazing start to 2026, @TheRealMerb makes the case that it’s time to make amends with Tobi Amusan, whose 100m hurdles world record at the 2022 World Championships got buried under doubt and controversy instead of being celebrated. 🎧 Full discussion on the CITIUS MAG Podcast’s latest “This Week In Track and Field” episode. This piece by Christopher is unfortunately very accurate. I’ve noticed a recurring theme: if you’re not an American athlete achieving these historic times, it can’t be considered genuine. When Keni Harrison clocked 12.20 seconds and initially broke the 28-year-old record in 2016, she was praised. Keni was clearly capable of running that fast then, so how is it that Tobi wouldn’t be capable of running 0.08 seconds faster six years later with favourable conditions and advancements in technology, tracks, and shoes? I could go on and on. I’m not suggesting for one second that any athlete should be questioned if they happen to set a world record; I’m merely linking it to my point that if you’re American, you’re less likely to be scrutinised or questioned by the media when setting a record or personal best, especially in comparison to an African athlete. Tobi Amusan deserves an apology. In fact, she deserves more than that. We need coverage that is unbiased and fair to all athletes, regardless of nationality. There are a few notable individuals who try their absolute best to create space for everyone in the sport—you know who you are 💙

🚨📊| THE STAT THAT DEFINES ARSENAL'S TITLE-WINNING SEASON.🏆 Across 61 matches in all competitions, Arsenal have been behind for just 403 minutes. That's it. To put that into perspective, the Gunners have played 5,490 minutes of football this season and spent only 7.3% of that time trailing. Even more astonishing? ▫️ Arsenal have trailed by 2+ goals for just 26 minutes ALL SEASON. Those 26 minutes came in the Carabao Cup Final. Not in the Premier League. Not in the Champions League. Not across a gruelling 61-game campaign. Just 26 minutes. In the Premier League, Arsenal have spent only 8.6% of match time behind on the scoreboard, the second-best record in the division. This is what elite control looks like. While other teams rely on comebacks, chaos and moments of magic, Arsenal's dominance starts much earlier: 🔸 Rarely fall behind 🔸 Rarely lose control of games 🔸 Relentless defensive structure 🔸Elite game management 🔸 Consistent for 90 minutes The biggest compliment you can give Mikel Arteta's Arsenal isn't that they win. It's that they almost never allow opponents to dictate terms. For years, critics said Arsenal lacked mentality. Now they're one of the hardest teams in Europe to put behind, let alone beat. This isn't luck. This is coaching. This is structure. This is control. This is a champion's mentality. 🏆

I don’t see a problem with people celebrating their football club winning. Not everyone can afford skinny dipping in Ukunda every other month. Or taking long drives. We all need an outlet and to most people, that’s sports. Let people be. Do I as I do. I don’t give a fuck about football, so I’m going other stuff today. If an arsenal fan tries to cheer next to me, I’ll briefly join because I’m not a narcissistic piece of shit. I respect the things that make other people happy.

See clowns. Your government just borrowed 174B on your already battered pockets, fuel is unaffordable, a bill to privatise water is in the works, another bill to tax free hold land and an even more punitive finance bill is getting passed. Your cost of living is unbearable, but your salaries have remained constant since 2020. But yes, let's celebrate arsenal team winning a trophy. Give them bread and circus and they will never revolt.
