We’re super excited that, for a third time, the BHF is the charity partner for the latest @OmazeUK House Draw, Bath. Our Ambassadors @sclub, who lost their bandmate Paul to an undiagnosed heart condition last year, explain why this partnership is so vital.
On last night's episode, instead of the theme tune we all know and love, the Coronation Street credits cut to the sound of a flatlining heartbeat. This is the first time that the Coronation Street credits have been modified in the 64 years the soap has been broadcast on TV.
The ad voiced by BHF ambassador and former Corrie actor Kimberly Hart-Simpson, came after heartbroken viewers found out one of the show's most iconic characters, Gail Platt, will be leaving the Weatherfield cobbles after 50 years.
Gail suffered a heart attack before going onto have a cardiac arrest in hospital. She then underwent a lifesaving procedure to stent open the blocked coronary artery that caused the heart attack and to try to prevent any further heart attacks. Thanks to swift medical action Gail survived.
The BHF funds £100 million of new cardiovascular research each year towards new tests and treatments that could help keep families like Gail's together for longer.
Damion Mower, our Director of Brand, Acquisition and Retail Marketing added:
"When Gail joined the Street in the 1960s more than seven out of ten heart attacks were fatal. Today, in part due to medical research funded by the BHF, more than seven out of ten people survive."
So… Grandad? Grandpa? Gramps? All suggestions welcome(ish). Looks just like me imo. Can’t believe they’re not calling her Clive. Soooo pleased! Congratulations to Hannah, Taylor and now Margot. Life eh? ❤️😘
In under 10 words, me about your first pet & a story that’s now part of family lore. Could be your pet when you were growing up or your pet when you got your first place. Just met a basset (Bob) so mine is:
Snoop, Basset, ate someone’s birthday cake in the park.
@AudreyBirt@jamesjopling@cdbirt How very sad, I am so sorry. Audrey kindly gifted me a selection of her old knitting needles as a PA at Breakthrough Breast Cancer which always remind me what a lovely lady she was and how lucky we were to have her onboard. My sincere condolences x
@cdbirt here. It’s with great sadness that I announce the death of our brilliant Mum, Wife, Grannie and friend Audrey Birt
She died peacefully surrounded by family after the swift worsening of her cancer
We’re all so sad but take comfort in her love, kindness and passion xxx
In case you were looking for something happy please welcome Lottie, who hasn't stopped purring and playing since we got her home from the wonderful RSPCA in Brighton. Later this week she will meet Liesl face to face for the first time. Do wish us all luck!
