Yes Cindy. You do.
Yes, X (formerly Twitter) now requires a 4-digit passcode (PIN) when setting up or accessing X Chat (the updated Direct Messages / DMs feature with end-to-end encryption). How the passcode worksIt's not a default or universal code — you create your own unique 4-digit PIN the first time you open the Chat tab.
This PIN encrypts your private key (it never leaves your device) and protects your messages.
You'll be prompted to enter it whenever you switch to the Chat tab (especially after logging out or on new devices).
Choose something memorable but not obvious (avoid 1234, 0000, etc.).
How to set it upOpen the X app on your phone.
Tap the Chat/messages icon (usually at the bottom right or in the navigation bar — it may now say "Chat").
If it's your first time, you'll see a prompt to set up encrypted chats or create a PIN.
Enter a 4-digit code and confirm it.
Once set, you can access your chats by entering the PIN.If you need to change or reset the passcode laterGo into the Chat tab.
Tap the gear icon (settings) at the top.
Look for the option to reset passcode (it often appears at the bottom).
Enter your new 4-digit code.
Troubleshooting tipsIf the prompt is stuck or you can't access chats: Try logging out of your X account completely, then logging back in. This often resets the encryption setup and lets you create the PIN fresh.
Old messages may reappear once the PIN is set correctly.
Note: This is tied to the encrypted X Chat feature (rolled out around late 2025). It might feel mandatory in the app, though some users report workarounds via logout or avoiding the Chat tab.
For the most accurate steps, check X's official help page on About Encrypted Direct Messages (search for it in the app or at help.x.com). If you're still having issues, let me know more details (like whether it's the app or web, and what exact message you're seeing)!

@NebraskaCindy I cant remember. I think you have to setup a pass code
English

@NebraskaCindy @Erellsro Do you have the separate grok app?
English
@Michael34952 @Erellsro I have several time. I asked Grok why - it said sometimes there’s a glitch when it’s downloaded. The only way to get rid of Grok is to delete my account. Not gonna do it, so I suffer in silence. Right! 😂

@Michael34952 @StellarArtoisGB Good morning, Michael ☀️Wishing you a good day and weekend ahead! 😀🙏💛

@Michael34952 @Erellsro I can’t. When I loaded Grok there was a glitch. No DMs and no 3 dots visible to me! 😱

Good morning, my friends! ☕ I'm going to run into town and grab Easter dinner, because I forgot to last week... And when I get home, I'm going to piddle around in the greenhouse and then help the Hubs put the remaining raised beds together... It'll be a busy day and I'm loving it! ❣️
