This is lazy and stupid analysis. He wasn't hooking with the intent of causing a foul call. He placed his arm on the side of the defender so that on the next step his hip would beat the defender to the spot to drive by. Obviously that did not happen as the defender moved laterally to close him off. But to say he was hooking the arm to draw the foul is BS. He was doing it to beat the defender to a spot.

This is what people mean when say “unethical” hoops. This is simply not Basketball. Try to stick your arm underneath someone else’s to make it look like you got hooked. No real effort to try and get by them. Call it crafty if you want, I say it’s lazy.

Born January 6, 1937, in Follansbee, West Virginia, Holtz rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most respected figures in college athletics. Over a remarkable five‑decade career, he led college programs at William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina.  He transformed every team he inherited and captured the 1988 National Championship with the Fighting Irish. Holtz was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Beth, with whom he shared a life grounded in faith, devotion, and service.   Holtz is remembered for his enduring values of faith, family, service, and an unwavering belief in the potential of others. His influence extended far beyond the football field through the Holtz Charitable Foundation and the many players, colleagues, and communities shaped by his leadership. He is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren, and two great‑grandchildren. The 3 Big Ten National Champions faced a COMBINED 7 ranked opponents during the regular season. THREE SEC teams faced AT LEAST 7 ranked opponents last season alone. Something MUST be done about the strength of schedule disparity in college football.
