In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi laid out why Iran is done playing by the old rules, especially when it comes to the Strait of Hormuz He argued that Gulf countries hosting US bases have "caused great harm to the Iranian people" and will have to answer for it, after the war. Marandi also stressed that Iran no longer believes a word coming out of the United States, calling any agreement meaningless without real "changes on the ground". "The Iranians cannot accept any assurances from the United States on a piece of paper," he said, adding, "A Trump signature is worthless." Marandi argued that control over the Strait of Hormuz is how Iran plans to make sure the region can’t be used against it again.
