@GCSE_Macbeth @SarahFPoetry It sounds like the writing of a very clever teenager. It’s got quite a few obvious contrivances that grate like creaky hinges, especially in the middle section: the blind man, the arrival of the foreigner who has to learn the language and the handy bag of books. Convenient!

@SarahFPoetry Yes. It's fascinating and well worth reading and studying, but imo it's not well written.

@michael_merrick That spec actually launched over a decade ago! The critical anthology is only used for the coursework element (20%). We don’t even teach it as the students choose their own texts and focus for the NEA. Other than that, it’s totally newsworthy.

@holland_tom You get the same problems with literature. It makes up quotations and can’t get plot details right. When you correct it, it just says ‘good catch!’ and then makes something else up.

@adamboxer1 Might need one in a year or two on how to still teach properly while on a controlled assessment treadmill and having to evidence everything for Ofsted while keeping everyone engaged and focusing on 21st century skillz. 😒

I'm thinking about starting blogging again. If I did, would you read it? What kind of thing are you interested in reading? Topics? Style? Length? In a post-Musk world I just feel like everyone is disengaged from that stuff now 🫤

@GCSE_Macbeth @Xris32 Yeah, that’s another. I guess they had a kind of supernatural one (which became known as the Banquo question 😂) but the Utterson omission is baffling. He’s got a great little character arc! Utterson and curiosity? Much easier to structure than anything about Jekyll!

@GCSE_Macbeth @Xris32 There are a few questions that the board seem unwilling to set: Eva Smith and Mr Utterson spring to mind.

To many of us, #Blackadder is part of every day parlance. Which phrases from the show do you use yourself and when you do you use them? Example: When someone offers me a cup of tea, I say: "Yes, immediately!" You get the idea. Will RT the best ones.

It’s difficult to convey just how bad training and professional development in education was 20 years ago. This train-wreck of a passage is from a bestselling book published in the 90s and the kind of thing that was uncritically adopted in thousands of schools.

@MrTeece_ They’re literally reporting the facts as they stand. He will be convicted of murder in due course. What you want is instant justice and for the media to reflect your emotional response to the story. Understandable. But that really would be wrong and concerning…

Maybe as a male I had been blind to this before but it's pretty apparent our press has an issue with reporting facts. This is murder, she didn't just die. Last week it was "seeks revenge for being raped" rather than justice. It's wrong and a really concerning pattern.
