The Godfather is perfect from start to finish. Perhaps the greatest opening scene and the greatest ending scene in the same film, and everything in between is great. Other obvious classic choices like Citizen Kane, Wizard of Oz, North by Northwest. ET is perfect. I also think No Country For Old Men is perfect and I’d even say Fargo is perfect. Whiplash I think is basically perfect. There’s a bunch you could name. Not all at the same level of greatness but all essentially flawless. And then there are movies that aren’t necessarily cinematic masterpieces but are still perfect in that they flawlessly tell precisely the story they want to tell, with no sour notes or off moments, and couldn’t be improved by adding or taking away any scenes or performances. I’d put stuff like Back to the Future, A Christmas Story, Princess Bride in that category. There are films greater than them but not as perfect. (Raging Bull would be an example of a film that is an artistic masterpiece but not entirely perfect. Plenty of others you could name here too. Bladerunner is another.)
