@SysyGoodman @JJ_McCullough @CrazyItalianPol I don't think she ever came out in support of LGBT+ rights before 2021, when she endorsed the "Zan" bill aimed at curbing discrimination on various grounds, including sexual orientation and gender identity.

@MichaelSinBotas Potenzialmente? Sì In pratica?

@DONTNOD_Michel I totally see that! And the ending, drawing that dualism between Ellie/Riley and Ellie/Joel, gives me goosebumps to this day. "But we fight, for every second we get to spend with each other, whether it's two minutes, or two days, we don't give that up."

@MichaelSinBotas I love all of the TLOU games But left behind resonated with me like few games before did. The perfect balance of interactivity and storytelling. Using shooting mechanics to tell emotional scenes like the water soaker scene… Or the amazing street fighter sequence What a game!

Some games I’m still thinking about years or months after finishing them. They all moved me because of their gameplay, their interactivity. None of them would have worked on me as a movie. Variety and differences is what makes us awesome as humans. Why would we want to limit it?

Exactly! Video games is a broad medium with so many depth, genres and subgenres. Let’s applaud the diversity it can offer rather than wanting to pigeon-hole it in a specific subset or what « gameplay » should be. Interactivity is interactivity, be it dear Esther or dark souls.

In light of recent comments about the nature of games like Mixtape, I think it's worth noting that I strongly believe the idea of "games" exists along a spectrum. And that I don't consider myself a "game designer" in general. Only in a very specific range of design, narrative, and experience. The games I enjoy and the games I create are often filled with long sections of quiet exploration. Something I've seen dubbed as "asset tourism" for the fact that you're strolling past 3D game assets that you may never see again. On the other hand, I consider games like Silk Song (based on what I've heard) to be beyond the difficulty range where I can derive enjoyment. There's nothing wrong with any of these experiences. Though they provide plentiful fuel for rage bait and general debate. I say, make the games you want to make. And play the games you want to play. And beyond that, live and let live. As an aside, this exact same debate springs forth with our @PlushieDreadful designs. People assume (incorrectly) that our designs are meant to be everything to everyone. The truth is, those designs express a very narrow area of the spectrum along which people experience trauma and mental/physical health issues. As the internet once proclaimed, it's OK to not like things. And you don't have to be a dick about it 😂

@neoncarradi0 @starsinher Michel’s recent take was spot, to me. Just like him, I can’t square Rachel’s backstory in BtS with the events of the first game. The investigative efforts in Rachel’s disappearance fading so quickly despite her father being the DA of Arcadia Bay is the most blatant example.
Michel Koch@DONTNOD_Michel

@lovelybug_2 One of the issues to me in bts was to have Rachel be part of a wealthy and powerful family. In our version her parents really abandoned the researches quickly enough and forced themselves to believe she fled to LA, because they were too poor to pay for researches.

@neoncarradi0 @starsinher While BtS has some virtues, like the emotional moments, the portrayal of Chloe’s coping with loss, and the ost, it also has many retcons and inconsistencies with the og game. That’s why the only way I can truly appreciate it, is by seeing it as “magnified fan fiction”.

i know many of my moots love D9 games and will be forever grateful to them for creating safi, but can we all agree that they made every single choice seem irrelevant? from the pricefield breakup being forced on us, to making the bae/bay choice not matter since they both survive +

@ChloeMaxxing_ This is my take on BtS, but it also applies to all of D9’s games about Max and Chloe. I see their continuation of the stories of Don’t Nod’s characters as “glorified fan fiction”, it’s the only way I can approach them and still appreciate them for their good aspects.
Michael Maestrini@MichaelSinBotas

@DONTNOD_Michel @lovelybug_2 This thread sums up the reasons why I perceive BtS as kind of “glorified fan fiction”; while good in some respects, it has various inconsistencies (both minor and major) and retcons quite a few things about the original game. It’s clear that it was handled by different authors.

@ChloeMaxxing_ I'm genuinely sorry to learn what you went through, man. And I agree with you; D9 has largely shifted the focus to "emotional storytelling", their stories feel much more "sanitized" compared to LiS. Max and Chloe’s relationship definitely matters, but it was never the only theme.

@DONTNOD_Michel @bosterm93 @lovelybug_2 Do you believe that you and the rest of the team would have liked to create a prequel about Chloe and Rachel? I think I would have loved to see your take on it. Even though I can see some virtues in Decknine’s work, I believe that BtS left a lot to be desired narrative-wise.

@DONTNOD_Michel I was just curious, how would your own interpretation of Rachel Amber differ from her personality displayed in Before the Storm? Because I feel like it is pretty faithful to Chloe and Rachel’s dynamic, but I always wondered if you felt the same way
