Chassis RCR-043 When you walk through the front doors of the Richard Childress Racing shop you are immediately greeted with one of Dale Earnhardt’s iconic black Goodwrench #3 Monte Carlos. It is a fine looking machine. As you get closer to the car and really look at the it - I mean REALLY look at it - you can see the ‘art’ of it, the subtle nuances of the hand crafted body; the way it was built to cut through the air with as little resistance as possible, all while meeting the required measurements of the NASCAR templates. It is a thing of beauty, encapsulating the aero performance coming out of the race shops of RCR in that era. RCR-043 was only used for one year (1999), but what a year it was! It won 60% of the races it entered and finished 2nd in the other 40%! It never finished lower than second, ever. RCR-043 helped make everyone stand up and take notice that indeed the Man In Black was back from a long win-less streak that saw him win only one points race (1998 Daytona 500) from March of 1996 until April of 1999, so the next time you visit RCR take the time to go visit this car and REALLY look at it, because not only is it a thing of beauty, it is a significant part of RCR and Dale Earnhardt history.
