@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM But anyway..gotta run. It was a good debate. Thanks for not getting vulgar and name calling. We don’t agree but at least we were civil to each other. Have a happy and safe 2021!
The tale of two Americas. The S&P 500 gained more than 16 percent in 2020 in a year of steep job losses and widespread financial pain washingtonpost.com/business/2020/…
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Walmart opens in small cities and closes small businesses by selling things cheaper. The people who started those businesses can no longer employ people, so they go work for Walmart. Again, your “should” is not reality. Same goes for Amazon.
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM They don’t have to work there. I agree they should be paid more. But at the end of the day..those billionaires are giving people a job. Walmart should not be a lifelong career. Minimum wage jobs should be for young kids and seniors.
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Isn’t the manner in which the billionaires got the money in the first place some manner of theft? Why are Walmart employees on food stamps?
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM I partially agree with you..my point is..it’s THEIRS. Taxing them higher because they are rich is theft. Billionaires should be generous. But that’s a personal decision. Govt should have no say what they do with their $.
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM I do, and I still had to get wage subsidy from the government this year. I gave because at times, I had enough, but people in my community did not. And I earn my money. Who NEEDS a billion dollars?? You can’t even spend that much money.
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM As I said. They should do with it as they please. How would you like if the government just taxed you more? What are you doing to help people? Do you voluntarily give money to people who make less than you?
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM So the billionaire needs to hold onto their wealth simply because? And that is more important that people getting evicted or unable to feed their children?
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Sure. Because it’s his. He can do with it what he wants. If he wants to give it to charity and help people..that’s a great thing to do. I’m sure most rich people do give to lots of charities. But govt has no right to step in and require them to give their wealth away.
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Ok. So when the rich say “screw that, I’ll leave the country” then what? Rich people usually put people to work. They sign the paychecks.
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Ok. Not arguing that that doesn’t exist. What’s your solution? Tax the rich? Take from the rich and give to the poor? Like Robin hood?
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM If you can buy stocks and you’re doing well, all power to you. Surviving loss of work? Amazing. People are being evicted.
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Right. So because there are poor people I should feel guilty that the SP500 is at an all time high? How about I just cash out my accounts and hand out cash to people struggling. Btw ive been out of work for 3 weeks..and 3 1/2 months March-June.
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Ok, T, I hear your privilege loud and clear. There is a huge segment of the country you are leaving out. Happy New Year.
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Where’s the father? He should be there..that’s a huge part of the equation you are leaving out. If divorced, he should be paying for the children. And if the mother has 2 jobs, she should have some type of retirement plan via work so she should have some $ in the market.
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM So what about the mother in that home who can barely make ends meet working two jobs to feed and clothe those kids? And she just lost a job because of COVID and faces eviction. Or worse. Where’s her stock market now?
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Well I disagree. It is available. The ones I feel for are young kids who barley have a chance bc of fatherless homes and violence, drugs etc in their neighborhood. They need good examples of what hard work can do for you.
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM But that’s not the reality. People CAN’T work even if they want to at the moment. Sure, people DO make their own destiny, but the American Dream is not available to all Americans.
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM People say “the rich get richer” even in good times. It’s never ending. In this country, you make your own destiny. It depends on your work ethic. You can literally become a millionaire making 50k per year. It takes sacrifice. I don’t want a govt handout. I want to work.
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM I’ll reiterate differently: I am in Canada, and we got $2000/month. I needed that money for food, rent and bills. Which of these should I have sacrificed to play the stock market? Now look at the US and how much YOU are all getting, and tell me again.
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM The tale of 2 Americas is the topic. Just because people’s wealth went up with the stock market doesn’t mean they should be demonized. My point is literally everyone can get in on the action. It doesn’t take a lot of money to get it to work for you.
@MichaelTorontow@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Imagine if people make sacrifices for their future? People live in the “now” and then moan when people who make sacrifices end up with a nice life in the future. I feel no sympathy for people who buy stupid stuff instead of saving for their future.
@Tman9940T@LeastTwit@SingletaryM Uh, you literally need money available to invest in stocks. People can’t even buy food, but they’re supposed to invest? Sounds like someone is still asleep.
