Xbox studio shutdown outrage is performative. Y'all didn't buy Hellblade 2, Kiln, Keeper or South of Midnight be fr. Sony failed too chasing live service slop and garbage like Concord. Meanwhile Nintendo selling millions. Because Nintendo focus on appealing games EVERYONE wants

This whole do or don't have to play games to be fans debate always boils down to people reducing gaming to "fandom" and making it evident all they care about is the social component and fashionability of being able to "wear" a game. Poser culture has grown into a blight.

@marcybats I think that’s the part people are misconstruing. Nobody *should* be saying it’s invalid as an experience. It just *should* deter you from certain talking points. Like the parts you didn’t engage with.

you can talk about the story and lore and whatever but speaking on the gameplay if you haven’t played the game is kind of silly

@zattowangai @MarnieGraves_ Gamepass began incredibly pro consumer, but that isn’t what we are debating nor calling that a mistake. What (I believe) Marnie is calling a mistake is that they introduced something that was not sustainable. Console is largely a casual player base saying bye to that is not smart

@MarnieGraves_ @MichealShyne Honestly, calling gamepass a mistake is kinda dumb, I think its super pro consumer. I think Microsoft is probably just ready to leave the console market to cater to pc players, which is smart if you ask me.

@MichealShyne @MarnieGraves_ I disagree with both of you about Gamepass, specifically because it's a developers decision to put games on GP and accept a loaded up front sum. Some of those games wouldn't have seen the light of day. Xbox gamers not buying games is a myth, they buy the games AND sub.

@jordanceasar2 @MarnieGraves_ Okay sure, but both HB2 and South of midnight released a year after their debut release dates. Marketing, investment and consumer interest are almost never higher than initial release. So them being delayed releases to multiplat hurts them.

@MichealShyne @MarnieGraves_ Nintendo doesn't discount, which is not exactly fair to the consumer, but they make good games, so it sells anyway. Xbox needs a plain xbox live tier for mp, a base gamepass with a few good games, then a day 1 gamepass with the rest, along with the PC game pass. Make good games

Well that’s the thing, these conversations thrive on reductive criticism, it’s usually based on something the critic isn’t familiar with and the more you reduce or minimize the thing your critiquing, the easier it is to meet a knowledgeable person on “even” footing. I want to clarify that I am not of the opinion that gacha games are inherently bad games or anything.

@MichealShyne I feel like that depends on the game itself? Something like Genshin still has a lot of effort put into worldbuilding, music, gameplay… etc, so it’s a bit reductive to say that the artistic direction is sacrificed across the board just because it’s a gacha game.

In my response I said “Xbox cultivated a fan base” that puts the onus of responsibility on Xbox my brother. It IS Xbox’s job to fix, as it is Xbox’s problem. The reason that it is an issue is because almost 20,000 people have lost their jobs in the ecosystem of the 2nd richest company on the planet
