@NatlParkService One of the best parts of hiking is meeting like minded souls on the trail who care about our earth and all it provides to us! We have been trail maintainers and avid hikers who practice leave no trace… preserving this beauty of national parks for my grandkids!!

When you encounter others on a trail, offer a friendly “hello” or a nod. This helps create a friendly atmosphere. If you approach a trail user from behind, announce yourself in a friendly, calm tone. Yelling “that chipmunk stole my car keys, run for your lives” is not helpful.
