Together we are clear that change must happen — and that it will. I was humbled and honoured to meet with @jamesmurray_ldn the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care as the country’s first National Maternity Advisor. It is about accountability. It is about safer staffing. It is about listening to families. And it is about building a maternity system where good professionals are supported to be great professionals — and where speaking up is encouraged, not feared. The voices of families who have suffered harm must never be ignored again. We move forward with determination and hope.

🔴Breaking News - Appointed as Government's National Maternity Advisor Today, I am honoured to announce that I have been appointed as the National Maternity Advisor to the Government. This role is deeply personal to me. Before I was a politician, I was - and always will be - a mother. Like far too many women across this country, I know what it feels like to come through childbirth carrying both physical and emotional scars. That experience has shaped me, driven me, and strengthened my determination to fight for safer, more compassionate maternity care for every family. Please see my statement below ⬇️

I recently attended the launch of the new fibroids report by @RCObsGyn in Parliament for an important discussion on the growing gynaecology waiting lists across England and the disproportionate impact fibroids have on Black women. Really good to see clinicians, advocates, and women’s health organisations working together to improve diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for women!

Today I spoke at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists conference on Perinatal Mental Health. Too many parents still struggle in silence during pregnancy and after birth. We need compassionate, joined-up care that treats mental health with the same urgency as physical health. I look forward to working on this through the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Maternity.

NEW: The review into maternity care in Sussex is likely to assess 1000 cases, going back to 2018. The scope of the inquiry, confirmed today, is a huge win for the families who were initially offered an examination of just nine cases. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

✍️ Today I wrote to Gedling Borough Council to reiterate the importance of protecting the Sherbrooke Scout Campsite land in Calverton within their Local Plan. I passionately believe in the Scouts movement and the incredible opportunities it gives young people - building confidence, resilience, friendships, leadership skills, and a lifelong connection to their community and the outdoors. Spaces like this are more than just land, they are places where generations of young people learn, grow, and thrive. Protecting them is an investment in the future of our communities 👇
