This narrative is so false and misleading. The monopolisation process feeds 5 teams outside the PL - that’s it. One of them just lost to Spurs who are in a relegation dog fight. Wolves would make the last 16 of the CL.

@IamMonster86 @BBCMOTD Can’t get why Real aren’t there?? Wage bills tell the story as well. The whole football pyramid has been ruined by neoliberalism. Each club should have to field 3 or 4 players born in the local area - would be so much better.

@IamMonster86 @BBCMOTD Those 5 spend the same if not more. A European Super League is slowly becoming a reality. The competition is a total joke - it doesn’t start till last 16. Mark my words, there will be 5 PL teams in the last 16 next year. It’s pathetic.

Given the amount the PL teams spend in comparison, shouldn’t they be beating everyone?!
And by competing, how are we judging that? I would say losing by 1 goal/drawing/winning one-off games would be competing?!

@radio_bellers Yeah, we’ve concentrated all the world’s best players and the football is negative and paranoid. That’s a wider cultural issue but the fact is that the PL outspends every other league combined. It would be way better if we cultivated more home grown talent instead.

@MickyPKerr I agree to an extent, but there are other considerations, not least the epl preoccupation with set pieces, stopping teams rather than creativity and the gamesmanship / ref / VAR disruption that is killing the flow in the English game.

Plus, having SIX teams in the competition leads to sub-standard teams like Chelsea, Spurs and Newcastle getting in.
Time for each Country to have their teams capped at two participants and allow more league champions into the UCL.

@BBCMOTD This narrative is false. The PL is easily the best league - the wage bill dictates. There are only 5 other teams that can compete with PL teams - when PL teams play them (as has just happened) they might lose. Christ alive Spurs just beat AM and they’re in a relegation fight.

The PL is where the world’s best players go with the exception of 5 clubs (3 Spanish, 1 French and 1 German). When PL teams play those sides, they might lose. Otherwise, CL is a massive step down in quality. Effectively, the competition doesn’t start till last 16.

To my knowledge, “Football: The People’s Shame” is the only piece of football journalism that details a plan to oust the completely corrupt PL and governance structure. Cynicism is not intellectualism - it’s time to stop moaning and start thinking about new ideas #PL
