My sister went into surgery at about 9 a.m. ET. They said it would be about five hours. So we're coming up to when I should hear back. I have to admit, I'm kind of nervous. The crazy thing is, before this, she had no history of heart trouble at all.
Bill Mitchell@mitchellvii

I'm nervous for my sister. I've been through major surgery like that myself and I know how difficult it can be. The ventilator when you first awaken is the hardest part. Hopefully she'll be well sedated until they remove that. Thank you for your prayers. 😇🙏❤️

@MavrocksGirl While I know your dad was famous for The Rockford Files and action-oriented film roles, I love, love, loved him playing opposite Sally Field in Murphy’s Romance. Your dad’s acting was quietly intense — just perfect.

I once worked with an adult #ESL student. He knew #English “on paper,” but the pronunciation of the names and cities and malls. (He worked in corporate for a national retail company.) was challenging. In Louisiana: Cortana is “fairly easy,” but not Baton Rouge! Tanger (outlet mall in Gonzales) Acadiana Mall (in Lafayette) Prien Lake (Lake Charles) Other states & regions also have their hard-to-pronounce names. Singing River Mall (Gotta love that name!) is pretty straightforward, but Gauthier, Mississippi is a mouthful. Biloxi is easy for us. but not for English Language Learners. Moving up to our neighbors in the North, we, who understand more French than we think we do, would not be baffled by Eau Clair, Wisconsin. Not so for someone who comes from Hong Kong or Japan! Even for us Southerners, some of the northern malls and cities would have us tripping over our tongues: Just for fun now, here is one Wayzeta, Minnesota. The “a” is silent. More fun: It’s on the shore of Lake Minnetonka in Hennepin County. Of course, we in the Deep South, are no strangers to Native American names!

𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗢𝗥 𝗞𝗘𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗗𝗬 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗖𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗨𝗧𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬 𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗗. 𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗧𝗭 𝗥𝗔𝗡. Let's be precise about what Senator Kennedy was actually trying to do, because it deserves to be understood — and Senator Schatz's cowardice deserves to be named. Senate Resolution 526 passed through the Rules Committee unanimously — every Democrat, every Republican voted yes. Its mechanism is straightforward: during a government shutdown, senators' paychecks are held in escrow. Not eliminated. Not docked. Held. The moment the shutdown ends and Congress does its job, every senator collects every dollar. No senator loses a single penny. That is it. That is the entire proposal. 260,000 federal workers — TSA officers, Coast Guard personnel, FEMA employees — are currently working without pay or furloughed entirely because the Democratic Senate will not pass a DHS funding bill. They are not getting their money held in escrow. They are simply not getting paid. Many live paycheck to paycheck. They have no choice. They show up anyway. Kennedy's resolution said: senators, share a symbolic version of that sacrifice. The absolute bare minimum. A gesture so modest it unanimously passed committee. Feel, in the mildest possible way, what the people you represent are feeling. Senator @brianschatz of Hawaii found this unacceptable. His response was not a speech. Not a counter-argument. Not an amendment. Not a single word of explanation to his colleagues or to the 260,000 workers his party's obstruction is leaving without income. He ran onto the floor, said "I object," and fled the chamber. No defense. No justification. No accountability. Just a procedural drive-by and a quick exit before anyone could ask him why. That is not legislating. That is not governing. That is not even a coherent position. It is a man using a parliamentary loophole as a getaway vehicle because he knows — he absolutely knows — that if he had to stand at that podium and explain to the American people why senators should continue collecting $174,000 salaries while TSA workers go without pay, he would have no answer that doesn't humiliate him and his party. So he didn't explain. He ran. Kennedy — who had called Schatz the night before to warn him he was bringing this resolution, who repeatedly refused to move to reconsider without giving Schatz a chance to return, who asked staff to contact him so he wouldn't be blindsided — stood there on the Senate floor with genuine bewilderment. Not political theater. Actual confusion that a senator could take official action in the world's greatest deliberative body without being recognized, without speaking a word, without being held to account for a single syllable. Schatz's cowardice has a direct cost. Every day this shutdown continues, working people who don't earn $174,000 a year, who don't have multiple offices and staff and expense accounts, feel it in their bank accounts and their families' lives. Schatz could have come to the floor and made his case. He could have offered a reason — any reason — why senators should be exempt from sharing even a delayed version of that pain. He had nothing. So he ran. 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘇 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱. 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁.

I fostered a litter of five, and this little shit is the only one that didn’t get adopted 😢 so it looks like he’s staying here, never mind that I have eight others 🤣 Anyway I’m really stuck on a name for him. Nothing seems to fit. Or maybe I’m procrastinating because I’m in denial that he’s really mine now LOL I’d love suggestions. I have two other orange cats, Reggie and Charlie, and they are super sweet. Not this one lol. I’ve had rowdy kittens all my life but none quite as challenging as this baby 🥴 He’s cute though. Yes I know. ♥️

Just to clarify. I call him my little brother, but he is a grown man. Maybe younger brother would be more accurate. He’s not a kid. He’s just 7 years younger than I. I appreciate the outpouring of prayer for him. It has been overwhelming. Just know that if I can’t respond, it is still very much appreciated and needed.

If you're a praying person, sure could use some prayers of healing. Not for me, but for someone who means the world to me. My little brother is being airlifted out of my hometown rural hospital to a trauma center for emergency surgery for an aortic dissection.

I never thought I was raised by low income parents during a time when almost everyone treated each other with respect. We didn't eat a lot of fast food because it was considered a treat, not a food group. We drank Kool-Aid made from water that came from our kitchen sink with real sugar. We ate bologna sandwiches, or even tuna (which was in a can not a pouch), PB&J & , hot dogs, but mostly homemade meals consisting of mainly dough, meat, potatoes, vegetable, bread & butter, and homemade dessert. We grew up during a time when we mowed lawns, pulled weeds, babysat, helped neighbors with chores to be able to earn our own money. We went outside a lot to play games, ride bikes, red rover, dodge ball, run with siblings, and friends & played hide and seek. We drank tap water from the water hose outside... bottled water was unheard of. If we had a coke -it was in a glass bottle ... and we took the empties back to the store for a 5 cent deposit. We watched TV shows like Bonanza, Leave It To Beaver, Gilligan's Island, Happy Days, Bewitched, The Brady Bunch, Little House On The Prairie, and I Love Lucy. After school, we came home, and did homework, and chores before going outside or having friends over. We would ride our bikes for hours. We had to tell our parents where we were going, who we were going with, and what time we'd be back. You LEARNED from your parents instead of disrespecting them, and treating them as if they knew absolutely nothing. What they said was LAW, and you did not question it, and you had better know it!!! When the sun was starting to set you had better be home. In school we said the Pledge of Allegiance, we stood for the National Anthem, and listened to our teachers, also had prayer each morning. We watched what we said around our elders because we knew if we DISRESPECTED any grown-up we would get our behinds whipped, it wasn't called abuse, it was called discipline! We held doors, carried groceries, and gave up our seat for an older person without being asked. You didn't hear curse words on the radio in songs or TV, and if you cursed and got caught you had a bar of soap stuck in your mouth, and had to stand in the corner. “Please, Thank you, yes please no thank you yes ma'am no ma'am yes sir, and no sir were part of our daily vocabulary! Re-post if you're thankful for your childhood, and will never forget where you came from & the time you came from! ❤

#Teachers have seen this for years. If the powers that be insist upon inclusion, give us two teachers in each classroom. Or. At least two adults. I’d be fine with a para - if I were able to choose him or her. The para can be the police officer /bouncer/ therapist, and the teacher gets to teach. #SpecEd

Researchers have found that students who shared a classroom with pupils who have emotional and behavioral disabilities had more absences, lower math and reading scores, and were more likely to act out in the classroom or struggle with social skills. 🤨🤨🤨

All of the responses that I’ve seen, (nowhere near all of them, I’m sure, but over 2 dozen, for sure,) are concentrating on what’s right & that he already knew the child was not his - if he had the vasectomy 8 years ago But. The poster is saying that this is a recent email. (She also said she received an email addressed to her brother. Hmm. Why is this sister receiving an email addressed to her brother - unless this was pre-arranged prior to his death. Was this pre-arranged prior to his marriage? —— So, my questions are different. Why is a fertility clinic emailing a man who had a vasectomy? Did he go there to get his vasectomy reversed? What is the nature of the email? The deceased has a five year old - bio dad - or not. Was his death expected ? Why wouldn’t someone leaving his money to a “non-relative” discuss this with his family? (His parents and/ or his sister?) There is a lot here. Does poster feel that this woman (SIL) manipulated her brother into leaving her child a lot of money? Why wouldn’t he put his wife down as a beneficiary? Is this a “suspicious death?” When was this life insurance bought? Was her brother of sound mind when he decided to leave this policy to a child ? Why wouldn’t he set up a trust? Or, did he? If the brother put the money in a trust, then it won’t be used to pay for his wife’s new vehicle. Sounds like a lot of animosity here. Concluding thought: Although it’s extremely rare, vasectomies can fail. Is this poster absolutely sure this is not her brother’s bio child? #LifeInsurance

A new shower curtain costs what? Maybe $20 or $25. This is a bio hazard. Yuck. Toss it. Double bag or triple bag it. Put a rubber band around the trash bag and secure it. Clean your entire shower or, if you just can’t, hire someone & get the entire bathroom done. Wash your hands afterward. 2 to 4 minutes. Antibacterial soap. Rinse & repeat. Change your clothes & put them in your washer immediately. Getting back to the curtain… If money is tight, just buy a shower curtain liner. Wash it every month in a washing machine with vinegar. You’ll never have this problem again. #cleaning
