"Within a 30-minute period, [MTE went from] a couple of hundred out to thousands and thousands out." — Dan Bonds, Linemen/Serviceman Ice storms in Tennessee can wreak havoc on trees and infrastructure. The ice from Winter Storm Fern added significant weight to trees and powerlines. This stress on our system and surrounding vegetation created constantly changing, widespread outages across our territory that required hundreds of linemen to repair. "You know you're gonna be thrown into a crisis at some point. You just don't know when or what it's gonna look like." - Makenzy Butts, Communications Coordinator As Winter Storm Fern approached Middle Tennessee, teams across MTE prepared to respond before the storm hit. In the days that followed, line crews and Systems Control worked around the clock to restore power to thousands of members left in the dark and extreme cold. Additional teams supported our members in other ways—keeping them informed, hearing their concerns and directing them to helpful resources. When our members need us the most, MTE banded together to demonstrate what we're built to do and why we continually work to prepare for situations like Fern. ⚠️ With severe weather affecting our territory, members may experience outages due to storm damage or vegetation contacting our lines. Systems Control, line crews, and other teams are monitoring the grid and weather to respond to any outages when it is safe to do so. 🗺️ We encourage members to view our outage map at mte.com/Outages to see the latest status on outages across our territory. You can also view the outage map directly in the myMTE mobile app. While Systems Control detects outages within minutes, some members prefer to report their outages. We offer three ways to report your outages: 1️⃣ Through the myMTE mobile app 2️⃣ Automated phone line: 877-777-0215 3️⃣ After-hour support line: 877-777-9020 We hope everyone stays safe and weather aware as we ride through these strong storms together tonight.

⛈️ Storm season has arrived! Severe thunderstorms are frequent in Tennessee, particularly during the spring and summer months. These storms can bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, hail and tornadoes, posing significant threats to safety, power lines and the electrical grid. It’s important to know how to prepare your family for severe storms and the chance of tornadoes that can come with them. With moderate storms passing through middle Tennessee today, we thought it appropriate to share our severe weather guide. You can view the steps you should take before, during, and after these strong weather events. 📖 Read or download the guide at mte.com/thunderstorm-w…. ⚠️ As a reminder to our members, line crews and teams across our organization are ready to respond to outages that might occur this storm season. To learn more about our outage restoration process, view our outage map, or find who to contact during an outage, please visit mte.com/Outages. Stay safe and weather aware today!

Co-op leaders, industry partners from across the country, and MTE team members helped @onegenaway hand out food in Smyrna as part of the @TSECooperatives 2026 Community Service Project. This project is part of the @NRECANews #PowerXchange26 conference happening in Nashville right now. Together, we distributed more than 25,000 pounds of food to 300 cars. We are thankful for the opportunity to support this incredible effort and grateful for those who volunteered to help our community and our members.

📉 Cut the phantom load. Phantom (aka "standby") power is the energy your gear uses just for being plugged in. Printers, scanners, docks, speakers — even when off — consume energy. This can add up over time and increase your energy consumption as more devices are plugged in. Quick fixes: ➡️ Turn on auto‑sleep (5–10 minutes) for things like printers and scanners. ➡️ Enable wake-up options so speed stays and energy waste goes. ➡️ Use a smart power strip to shut off idle devices. ➡️ Unplug chargers you're not using. ➡️ Check Energy Star power settings on your devices. 🔗 Get more energy efficiency tips at mte.com/WaysToSave. Our EnergyPros have curated a list of solutions and resources to help you reduce your energy consumption.

Winter is a high-energy consumption season for our members, and we haven't quite seen the end of it yet. Heat pumps are great for most of the year in Tennessee, but they lose their efficiency when temperatures dip below 35 degrees. In frigid temperatures, as we saw throughout January, heat pumps rely on backup/auxiliary heat to keep up. To make up the difference between the outside temperature and your thermostat setting when it's this cold, they run much more frequently. Since a majority of our members rely on heat pumps, we wanted to re-share this video from our Energy Academy workshop series that explains how they work. It should also provide more insight about why you might have received a higher-than-normal bill after the extreme cold we've experienced across Middle Tennessee so far this year. If you want to reduce the impact that extreme weather has on your monthly bill, we encourage you to consider switching to our Levelized Plan at mte.com/myEnergyPlan. This option uses your rolling 12-month average to create a more consistently priced bill each month, even during high consumption seasons.

“With all that ice and debris, you can’t get a truck in. You’ve just got to go in and climb the pole. You’re out in the woods, and you’re up on a pole and you hear stuff breaking around you. There’s nothing to stop a tree from falling while you’re working. It’s scary, but it’s an inherent risk of the job.” - Dan Bonds, MTE lineman Thank you to @NRECANews for spotlighting our team and sharing more about the dangers and challenges they experienced in the field while working to restore power during Winter Storm Fern. 🔗 Read their story here: electric.coop/a-crash-course…

Another Black History Month impact story highlights Ruth Clement Bond, the wife of TVA executive Max Bond. While living in modest, segregated housing at the Wheeler Dam project, Bond noticed that many Black wives of TVA workers decorated their homes with catalog paper. She later created a program to help women, many from sharecropping backgrounds, learn new skills to improve their homes and quality of life. Despite having no formal sewing experience, Bond designed six bold quilts that conveyed hope for Black workers, reflecting ideas that preceded the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.

❄️ Have you ever opened your electric bill in the winter and wondered why it’s higher than usual? You’re definitely not alone. Many of us see a jump in energy consumption when the temperatures drop, and it’s not always easy to figure out why. For most members, it’s a mix of things—heating systems working overtime, longer nights, and more time spent indoors. Sometimes, it’s just the reality of keeping your home comfortable when it’s cold outside. 🏠 We know every household is different, and there’s no single answer that fits everyone. That’s why we’re sharing some practical tips and insights to help you understand your bill and make choices that work for your family. If you’re looking for ways to stay warm without breaking the bank, or just want to know what’s driving your winter bill, we’ve got you covered. 🔗 Want to learn more? In honor of Black History Month, we are sharing the accomplishments of individuals whose work helped provide the energy that supports Middle Tennessee today. We begin with Dr. J. Max Bond Sr. at Wheeler Dam, located near Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Bond was recruited to work on the TVA’s massive Wheeler Dam project in Rogersville, Alabama, part of the New Deal economic initiative. Bond was the TVA’s most senior Black executive. Like much of the South at the time, the TVA workforce was segregated, including housing for workers. Bond advocated for fair and equal pay for Black and white workers, challenging deeply rooted inequities within the project.
