#OnThisDay Mar 15 1870: A winter storm hits Iowa and SW Minnesota with up to 16" snow. The Estherville, Iowa "Northern Vindicator" newspaper first uses the boxing term "blizzard" to describe it. The word wasn't used by the US Signal Corps Weather Service until 1876.
