Inside the crumbling and decaying behemoth that is the Wyman-Gordon power plant in Chicago, Illinois.

@jpgadvisor I assume they relocated. This was the power plant that once ran their factory in Dixmoor. That factory is long gone.

@ExploresMr A behemoth to say at least. WG is still a premier forging manufacturer!

@blackcatpoppies Sadly. I've seen these in all sorts of industrial abandonments. The old Detroit Marine Terminal had equipment from I-R as well, before it was torn down. Heavy duty.

@ExploresMr Ingersoll-Rand. I have seen that name on a lot of equipment. I guess there were a lot of air compressors in print shops. Now they're made in China.

Abandoned since 2013, this old junior high in Flint, Michigan has certainly seen better days.

The unique, still-beautiful and sadly abandoned Oak Park Methodist Episcopal Church in Flint, Michigan. It was a victim of arson in 2023, and burned to the ground. A major loss.

@stevenamcqueen Abandoned ones seem to be easy targets, whether its homeless trying to stay warm in the winter, idiot kids being edgy, or owners looking to cash in on insurance.

Scenes from an abandoned Kirkbride psychiatric hospital in Appalachia.

@davrola In reality, not as much as you'd think. Maybe in the wings furthest out. Kirkbrides housed their toughest customers in the furthest out wings, and as you went in towards the middle, where admin was, the more gentle the cases got.

@amazing_AI_ A whole TON of problems. There are so many people in society today who might have benefitted from a well-funded, modernized and humane psychiatric hospital. But we don't want to pay for that, so out it goes.

@ExploresMr The government drops the funding, and that's what happens. And then we get the "homeless" problem… 🤔
